Annie, I agree with you and Velda. . Most of what I have posted so far have been recommendations and things to think about, from the CDC, etc, plus observing China and Italy. I don’t think we will get to a massive country wide shutdown like that, as we are a bigger, more spread out country. The biggest population areas are along the astern seaboard, and west coast. The remainder have large population areas scattered about in certain areas of their states, The northern border states, western mountain states, plains states have large areas of scant population with large cities here and there. Like MI has it’s biggest population in the southern part. What I think might happen is a city, a state or part of a state might go into lockdown depending. But we here in this country are so used to having everything we need, when we need it, that we don’t think it could be interrupted . Like I said, stores depend on shipments by carriers, this is includes online shippers like Amazon too. If the virus were to Affect an employee of the trucking or shipping firm, it could either cause a shutdown or shortage of personnel, causing delays. Or even a food or manufacturing plant. I’m kinda surprised that we are still getting strawberries from Mexico, when they have areas with the virus or lettuce, berries and other food stuff from CA. Probably isn’t a problem as yet, So it is wise to just make sure you are prepared. Don’t need enough to stock a bomb shelter, but enough to keep you going for what time is needed.
Another thing that was mentioned is a strain on the internet as employees go into a work from home mode or people turn to social media and other things rather than be around others. All this could slow down the system in your area and worldwide.
As to the stock market. The drop is being fueled by panicky investors and OPEC. The economy itself is fine right now might have a downturn as people hold off on on travel or big purchases etc., and maybe some manufacturing firms having to shut down for awhile, but will get moving again soon enough. We all know the drill with OPEC and their squabbling. Won’t last
long. Been there done that in he ast. On the other side of the coin, good for our pocketbooks at the pump. But look at China. How much stuff we get from there that’s not coming right now. Once they start cranking back up, they will be going gangbusters to catch up to all that stuff, so the global markets will recover.
So all we can do is monitor the situation, take precautions, get prepared and wait.
