I've notic that a number of folks on this site have been to Alaksa. What are some of your favorie memories from your trip. I'll start.
i went in 2000 with two of my work partners. We travelled out in my Tahoe. Were going to rent a MH but was too expansive and we really didn't have time to do leisure, had to get back to work in a month. Some of my most fond memories of our trip was the cruise up the Inside Passage on the Alaska Marine Highway (ferry) and the things we saw and people we met. We had spectacular weather and went we left Petersburg the mountains were just shimmering in the water. Alaska in all it's glory. We stayed at a lodge 95 miles back in Denali National Park where I took a shuttle to Wonder Lake (hoping to see Mt. McKinley, no luck) and hiked back or most of the way anyway (shutle came along). I was thinking that here I was out there with nothing beyond me but wilderness for 600 miles to the Bering Sea except for scattered native villages. And in Whitehorse, Yukon I finally reached a dream of seeing the Yukon River. Could just picture the gold rush miners heading north. And the drive on the Alaska Highway, an experience in itself. But mild compared to years ago. And the fun of trying to wash off the mud from road construction

The entire trip for me was awesome. I can't single out certain things - as every day something new and it's the one place I can say I went with such high expectations - worried they wouldn't be met - but not only were they all met, they were exceeded.

I was supposed to be workamping there this summer (as was Sparkle) but things changed. If you're interested in my trip - you can find it all on my blog - www.ontheroadwithbeth.com/blog - I've got tons of pictures on the blog from it. And if you look back in posts here - Liz and Carol were also there last summer and Liz posted on here from their experiences - sometimes we were together - sometimes not - so we didn't have all the same experiences.

I brought the rv back on the ferry to go to some of the stops on the Inside Passage. That was neat - the neatest part of that is we went through an entire school (do whales travel in schools like fish?) of whales - hundreds of them. It was unbelievable.

I have to agree with Beth....it was all awesome. One beautiful view after another. We were lucky at Denali and the mountain appeared for us gloriously the day we took the shuttle. Type the word Ididaroad in the search box on this site to see some of our adventures. Trips off the main highways on the side roads led to some unique wildlife viewing and boondocking opportunities. One side trip to Hatcher Pass was especially memorable to me, along with the hike to a glacial lake there.
