Tis Sunday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Tis Sunday Morning

Postby Bethers » Sun Nov 13, 2016 10:12 am

Still dreary in south Texas, but this coming week should be quite nice. My co detector went off at 2:30 am for no reason. I shut it up and it stayed off. It was a very rude awakening and kept me up a few hours. I wanted to make sure it was really for no reason before going back to bed and possibly not waking up. The good news is it is loud enough to wake me up. Scared the heck out of Peaches. I wouldn't be surprised but it woke my neighbors!

Off to walk Peaches then do a bunch of nothing today.

Good Morning Beth and Everyone !!, Haven't started out yet, had some things to take out to RV and the smoke is sooo bad I can only deal with a few mins at a time. Takes my breath away which past couple years is not the best anyway. I am leaving way later then I had hoped, just hadn't planned on smoke being this bad. The fires are closer though and everyone is being told not to go out or if they do no longer then necessary. So I'm taking a good break, drinking water. I can smell smoke on myself though. Guess I should have left several days ago. One of those hindsight things.

Beth, what a horrible way to be woke up !! I had that happen years ago in old rig, turned out was ok but I didn't sleep good the rest of the night either.

Boy, I can sure smell the smoke on me and in house, have a great day everyone, I've got to get out of here !!

Beth, glad the weather will get better so you can get out and explore before leaving next week.

CArol, be careful with the smoke there. Do you have a mask or something that you can put over your nose when you are outside? Hope you can get out of there soon!

Sounds like Soos is almost to Florida now too.

I discovered one of my back windows fell into the door yesterday morning. Jeeps are known to do that. I had put strong suction cups on both back windows to keep them from falling but the suction cups fell off and I didn't notice. There is a little plastic part in the window mechanism that fails after awhile and allows the window to fall. There is a replacement kit but that also has the plastic part that will eventually fail again. I found a website that sells that part made of metal and am going to order it from there and find someone to put it in for me. I really need two, since the front drivers side is giving me problems too and will fail soon. Each part is $100 so not cheap but if it keeps it from ever happening again, will save money down the road. Now to find someone to install it for me cheap! Jeep should have done a recall on it but so far hasn't.

Off today and tomorrow. No plans since i don't want to spend any money if I don't have to. Lots of things to read here and need to do laundry too. Tomorrow I have an appointment for a massage ($25) that is much needed and hopefully will help with my arm issues. I did 3 curling iron and flat iron styles yesterday which didn't help any at all with having to twist my arm back and forth! It is rare to have people come in for styles like that but I was the (un)lucky one who got 3 yesterday! That also doesn't help with tips since I could be doing 3 haircuts in the time it takes to do one style and I barely got a few bucks from each one. :(

Hope the rest of you have a good day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good morning!
Note much new out here.
Beth, what a rude awakening - glad it wasn't for real.
Barbie, I can only imagine how tough those styles are on your arms. I watched as my daughters hair was done for her wedding. Her hair is fairly long & she wanted gentle curls at the bottom. The stylist really got a work-out. I was fascinated by her movements to make it happen. It was like a beautiful dance. Hope you don't get too many more of those. A massage will feel great! Oh & I had the same problem with my van's windows. Thankfully I have a handy son in KS who helped me fashion a fix for them using parts from the hardware store. They eventually may need a better fix but at least they are working for now.
Sounds like the smoke is really bad - hope everyone suffering from its effects find relief - or can get away for a bit.
Donna, that's great $$ for the charity. Glad you're taking a little break.
Lis, I love COA's - looks like you found a great one to stay at for a while.

Someone backed their hitch into the bumper of my travelin' van in the apartment parking lot a couple of nights ago. Of course, they didnt' leave a note or anything, just did it & left. I'm just hoping the structure of the bumper itself is still strong enough for the bolts to keep it on. Of course the area around the bolts were damaged a bit so I'm going to just fashion a do-it-yourself fix for now with some super strong tape to keep it secure.
Going to meet someone from KS later today out at one of the beaches. He just said 'I'll meet you there' - shows how naive we are in the midwest. He has no idea how busy the more popular beaches are out here & what a pain parking can be. I hope I can convince him to let me pick him up.
Other than that - just the status quo - working & working & working. :)
Take care & stay safe out there.

Beth, if it happens again, check the date on it. Both my son and I had that happen last summer (over several nights) and had to replace them. Both had stickers that said to replace every 5 years. Mine was 5, but my son's was only 4 years. We both replaced them and no more false alarms. Nothing like a shrieking alarm in the middle of the night to get your blood rushing! On a positive note, you just unscrew them from the wall and unhook a couple of wires, then do it in reverse with the new one. I took a photo of mine into Camping World to buy the replacement.

Enjoyed my cousins yesterday, but bought too much food and overstuffed refrigerator, so I have to strategically eat the biggest stuff first.

Not much happening today other than my usual student stuff and maybe going to a walk to take more photos of the locks in operation. So nice that they let you walk out on them. A lot of interesting cruisers, sailboats, and other assorted stuff going through. Saw some kind of a very long dredge made up of several parts and a cute little tugboat yesterday. Today is my last day here, and headed to Sebastian Inlet tomorrow morning. Hope their washer and dryer are working because I have a lot of dirty clothes!

Good well past morning! 67 out and I just finished cleaning out all my pots. Just about killed me to do it since they were all still blooming. Hard to believe we still haven’t had a killing frost. But I didn’t want to wait any longer and have to do it in 40* weather. Now I’m watching the Vikings let another game run down their leg.

Barbie, the guy that I used to carpool with had a Jeep and had the same problem with windows. One decided to drop on the way home in -10 weather. It was a nippy ride to say the least. If I were you I’d take that part to a Jeep dealership and tell them you know that there is a problem with that mechanism and ask them how much they would charge you to replace it with a part that you have. They just might do it for free.

Beth, I know that heart in the throat feeling! I had a rude awakening one night when I was alone, but it wasn’t with the CO detector but a weather radio. Started blaring in the middle of the night with a severe storm warning and to take immediate cover. Luckily by the time I could get my wits together and really listen to it the warning was for area about 250 miles away. Tough time getting back to sleep.

I have to decide before tomorrow if I’m going to buy a different car. Found a ’14 Ford Escape with 27,000 miles. Has everything that I want except for leather seats and the seats aren’t heated. But it doesn’t take long for my fat arse to heat up a seat! The price is the best that I have found. I test drove it on Friday.

Well I made the starter for Sheila’s frybread last night so I’d better get going on finishing them. Have a good day everyone!

Barbie, I hope Jeep windows are easier to fix than on my old Ford van. My son decided to fix the window on the front door. The part wasn't that much but the holes in the door are too small to put your hand through so it's almost impossible to reach anything. That and the original part is riveted in and has to be drilled out and replaced with a screw. He worked on it off and on for a week before he got it fixed. I bet if another one breaks it goes to the shop.

I have been out picking up pecans. It was getting a little nippy out without a jacket. It's only 67 but there's a North wind.

CArol, hope you can get on the road and get away from the smoke.

Since my rig isn't 3 years old yet, I hate to think the detector is 5 years old! That said I just checked my warranty - and it's on it - so if it does it again, I'll make an appt in AZ to get it fixed.

As to car windows - my passenger window sometimes decides not to go up or down - it does it ... on it's own time. It's not the motor, somehow the connection. Sometimes I can fiddle with it and it works fine for awhile ... now is one of those times. But if I was out today and opened it - I guarantee in the rain it would act up going back up.

Pat, let me know how you do with Sheila's recipe. Curious minds want to know! And I'm betting you go for the car :)

I just walked Peaches again - my shoes were still wet from this morning's walk - even though it pretty much was just misting both times. Maybe a little more than misting. Peaches sure smells like dog today. I'm hoping it gets this out of it's system so I at least can get a glimpse of the moon. I could see it behind the clouds the last two night - that's how bright it was - but would like to really be able to see it. Not going to count on it, though.

A friend of mine Brenda Berry is still on our group, but hasn't posted in a long time. I heard from her Friday night that her home, her in laws and her daughters dorm were all being evacuated due to approaching fire in NC! Brenda recently got a used class B to replace her trailer ruined by flooding some months ago. She is currently in DC helping her youngest brother and wife with their new baby born a month early. She is, I'm sure, torn between helping them and going home and fighting smoke. A good friend of her daughter perished in a auto accident last week, blinded by smoke. Hope Brenda stays in DC! My thoughts are with folks living near those fires. Be very cautious about going out in smoke! It was the King fire smoke (about 45 miles uphill) which put me in the hospital 2 summers ago from fine particulate matter you really can't see or smell.
We are well here. Had a surprise this morning when Mel's cousin showed up from Oklahoma with his 92 year old father, who was best man at our wedding 40+ years ago! It was good to see them . They are headed to play golf in Seattle! Uncle says at 92 if he gives up golf it's over for him so he plays as often as they can. I hope I have that attitude at 92, though I'm not a golfer, just the attitude about life in general!
Have a good week all.
