Unfortunately Shirl, in my experience, due to "standards of care", neither nurses or Drs are willing to give supplememts advice! I got all my info from research online, both reading and watching videos by Drs and nurses who do the research and quote studies. I don't take advice from magazines or bloggers, and I look up and read the studies quoted by Drs. Then do more research and make my own calculated decision. An example is NAC- which I had studied for use with asthma. I did more research when I got Covid and concluded it might help my lungs and it was helpful.
Anne, the max doses on D and Zinc are way higher than you might guess. Doses as high as 30,000 of zinc have been used in trials with no to minimal side effects. Does not mean you should try that, without personal specific research. Same with D and some studies show 20,000 IU a day of D for two weeks helps.
I like White Board Dr and several others who post lists of clinical trials with their videos. Doses on bottles are set by calculating minimum dose required for a healthy young male to survive without getting symptoms of being too low and are now thought to be not accurate for all. Example- if you eat carbs, you need to be sure to eat foods or supplements with Vit C daily as its water soluble so leaves quickly. But if you dont eat carbs, the C in meat is plenty, as shown by hundreds of people healthy on meat only for decades! Actual clinical trials are testing that, and so far no carnivores have scurvy!
My supplememts during acute phase included: extra over my usual 2000 IU daily of Vit D; zinc, Quercitin, and NAC (an antioxidant which is used by respiratory Drs in iv or pill form to treat respiratory issues). With long CoVid (usually defined as symptoms past two weeks), I added NAC- N Acetyly Cysteine for nerve pain- its also antioxidant. some sources recommend NAC through this winter for its antioxidant properties esp for those, with long CoVid. I'm finally weaning down on NAC after two previous attempts that had my nerve pain immediately return.
As to eyes , yes, CoVid can cause conjunctivitis - inflammation of the clear membrane of the eye. It's part of the inflammatory process that goes with viral infections, including CoVid. It may cause: tearing or watery eyes, redness, swelling, irritation or pain, itching, or discharge. If one has eye pain, significant redness, or decreased vision, it's recommended you see a eye Dr.
As to honey in tea? Honey is sugar , specifically 21-43% fructose. All virus love sugar! They seek it! So stands to reason, any form of sugar during a virus, would not be a great idea. Stick to plain tea, water, chicken broth! An egg drop soup of chicken broth with garlic and ginger and a couple eggs swirled gently in at high simmer, so it forms threads, is usually tolerated well and provides protein and fluids.
Yes, I still have some issues from Long CoVid plus damage from vaccine ( though I took 3 doses before I realized Drs really did not know how harmful it could be to some individuals.) Do NOT think I don't like vaccines, I took 2 plus a booster! Just be cautious and know what is best for you, is not best for everyone. I got CoVid 5 months after booster! I just keep on trying to heal. I still have days of overwhelming fatigue, nerve pain, and lingering respiratory issues at 13 months from first symptoms and 2 years from first vaccine. the relatively new Paxlovid is another example of know yourself. I'm not eligible for several reasons.
Carol, I hope you and Bill are on road to recovery soon. Seems pretty typical, from my experience as well as other friends, to be wiped out for at least 10-14 days before beginning to really feel more normal again. My friend contacted me yesterday at 10 days from first symptom, concerned she still tests positive. I reminded her it took me 3 1/2 weeks and special testing to finally test negative? These latest strains do vary somewhat in symptoms from the original strain, but still act like a virus!
