Thursday March 23

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Morning All, 52° rain and gloom. At least the tulips and sorry looking strawberries are getting a good drink. Weather fits my mood, blah. A cement truck just entered the construction site. A lousy job for someone. A long shower should help brighten the day. Soup for dinner and a chicken salad sandwich. Be safe

Good morning.

So very sorry to hear about you and Bill getting Covid. Thus far I have managed to avoid it, although I think I may have had a very "mild" case of Covid (back in the pre-vaccination days of March of 2020). I had all of the symptoms - including progressively worsening shortness of breath - was getting progressively more ill over about 5 days, starting to really struggle to breathe.

On the evening of the 5th day I expected that I might need to go to hospital in the morning - but instead when I woke up I felt very slightly better. Over about the next week to 10 days, the symptoms slowly resolved, and I was fine.

I self-treated this with Vitamin D and Zinc. Not massive doses (both can be toxic if one takes too much) - just the usual recommended doses on the containers. Both Vitamin D and Zinc are known to boost the immune system - and many people are low on D and Zinc (some studies have suggested that Zinc can disrupt viral replication). Also a lot of tea and honey - although I don't like tea, and despise the taste of honey.

Of course, I have no idea whether I had Covid or not - there wasn't even a test for it then. I do know that I was very, very ill. Sick in a way I had never before experienced.

My heart goes out to you both. Hope you can find a way to get back home.

Is the eye problem Bill is having double vision? I sent you a few more details - check your PM's.

Carol so sorry you both are not doing so well. I suffered 8 long months before I felt better and started to eat again. Lost 50lbs. went from Covid to Long Haulers Covid. I hope you both fare better than I did. I think Velda still has some issues after Covid. I agree with Anne they say Vitamin D and Zinc seem to help. Nothing helped me until I got the strong antibiotics. Said at the time now I had atypical pneumonia. Maybe you should go to the hospital and see about an infusion of monoclonal antibodies.
Can you use your phone as a hotspot???

I wanted to get out and work in my yard today but apparently Mother Nature has other plans for the rest of the week. So will just putter around the house. I am looking at new recipes as I get bored with same old stuff. My problem is usually dont have all the ingredients needed....sigh. I absolutely dont want to go to the store today. OR it has way too many calories and/or carbs. I might make a Shepherds pie casserole with mashed riced cauliflower. I like just zapping something in the microwave and that is easy to heat up and not a ton of calories. I actually like the riced cauliflower but still not as much as real potatoes LOL Will probably make it tomorrow, need to take out some hamburger to thaw, and I have some leftover tortellini soup and small amount of ribs to eat up.

Shower time and then a load of laundry. I have lots of sweatshirts to wash LOL LOL it has been chilly

Lyn I found having an apple iPad was easier for me to use since I also had an apple cell phone. I also use the printer with iPad. I also stream tv, video and grocery shop in the comfort of the recliner. Lol I would like word processing so I could print letters. It is available but I have not added that since I will eventually want a new iPad.

Carole, does your supplemental insurance have an ask a nurse telephone number you could call for advice on otc meds?

Unfortunately Shirl, in my experience, due to "standards of care", neither nurses or Drs are willing to give supplememts advice! I got all my info from research online, both reading and watching videos by Drs and nurses who do the research and quote studies. I don't take advice from magazines or bloggers, and I look up and read the studies quoted by Drs. Then do more research and make my own calculated decision. An example is NAC- which I had studied for use with asthma. I did more research when I got Covid and concluded it might help my lungs and it was helpful.
Anne, the max doses on D and Zinc are way higher than you might guess. Doses as high as 30,000 of zinc have been used in trials with no to minimal side effects. Does not mean you should try that, without personal specific research. Same with D and some studies show 20,000 IU a day of D for two weeks helps.

I like White Board Dr and several others who post lists of clinical trials with their videos. Doses on bottles are set by calculating minimum dose required for a healthy young male to survive without getting symptoms of being too low and are now thought to be not accurate for all. Example- if you eat carbs, you need to be sure to eat foods or supplements with Vit C daily as its water soluble so leaves quickly. But if you dont eat carbs, the C in meat is plenty, as shown by hundreds of people healthy on meat only for decades! Actual clinical trials are testing that, and so far no carnivores have scurvy!

My supplememts during acute phase included: extra over my usual 2000 IU daily of Vit D; zinc, Quercitin, and NAC (an antioxidant which is used by respiratory Drs in iv or pill form to treat respiratory issues). With long CoVid (usually defined as symptoms past two weeks), I added NAC- N Acetyly Cysteine for nerve pain- its also antioxidant. some sources recommend NAC through this winter for its antioxidant properties esp for those, with long CoVid. I'm finally weaning down on NAC after two previous attempts that had my nerve pain immediately return.

As to eyes , yes, CoVid can cause conjunctivitis - inflammation of the clear membrane of the eye. It's part of the inflammatory process that goes with viral infections, including CoVid. It may cause: tearing or watery eyes, redness, swelling, irritation or pain, itching, or discharge. If one has eye pain, significant redness, or decreased vision, it's recommended you see a eye Dr.

As to honey in tea? Honey is sugar , specifically 21-43% fructose. All virus love sugar! They seek it! So stands to reason, any form of sugar during a virus, would not be a great idea. Stick to plain tea, water, chicken broth! An egg drop soup of chicken broth with garlic and ginger and a couple eggs swirled gently in at high simmer, so it forms threads, is usually tolerated well and provides protein and fluids.

Yes, I still have some issues from Long CoVid plus damage from vaccine ( though I took 3 doses before I realized Drs really did not know how harmful it could be to some individuals.) Do NOT think I don't like vaccines, I took 2 plus a booster! Just be cautious and know what is best for you, is not best for everyone. I got CoVid 5 months after booster! I just keep on trying to heal. I still have days of overwhelming fatigue, nerve pain, and lingering respiratory issues at 13 months from first symptoms and 2 years from first vaccine. the relatively new Paxlovid is another example of know yourself. I'm not eligible for several reasons.
Carol, I hope you and Bill are on road to recovery soon. Seems pretty typical, from my experience as well as other friends, to be wiped out for at least 10-14 days before beginning to really feel more normal again. My friend contacted me yesterday at 10 days from first symptom, concerned she still tests positive. I reminded her it took me 3 1/2 weeks and special testing to finally test negative? These latest strains do vary somewhat in symptoms from the original strain, but still act like a virus!

Shirl, you can go ahead and get that app for letter writing etc. . When you get a new iPad, it will automatically transfer over from your old one when you are ready to do that. All of my apps transferred from this one to my new one, with no problem.

Sue, I know the Pages app would transfer. My newest iPhone has it installed already so being lazy me I’m waiting for new iPad to already have it. I avoid anything tech I can. Lol

Did you see Lynn’s request for your opinion about iPads?

I picked up my tax papers so got that over with for a year. I had a package for my son so headed out to Lafayette. I brought the service manual for my motorhome and stopped at a ford dealer to talked to the service department. Fixing the dash light would involve removing the dash and they wouldn't do that. There are no replacements for a 2009 dash if they cracked it. He told me to call the RV shop I use. I'll call them tomorrow and see what he says. If the fix involves removing the dash I will just live without the light. I seldom ever drive at night anyway.

I finally gave Sugar her bath this morning. She goes right to the bathroom and gets in the shower. I think she likes a bath now. She is such a good girl. I hope it helps her scratching.

The local deli had pork roast today so I picked up a lunch. It was so good. It's sure hard to stay on a diet. I saw a recipe on Facebook that called for shrimp and cheese tortellini that looked good. I don't remember seeing tortellini for sale anywhere but Sam's.

I almost forgot that I need to go put the trash out. I put the crawfish shells in the freezer and forgot to put them in the trash last week.

I am very happy to have an iPhone, mainly because both of my sons, their wives, and their kids also have iPhones. That means I have a lot of experienced family if I have problems. A couple of times, I had friends ask me for help with other brands, and I tried, but just could not do it. I don't think one brand is that much better than another, but it does help if everyone in your family has the same phone and can help you.

It is still cold and windy here in Cochiti Lake between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. The last two days, especially the day I arrived, were cold, but also cloudy and rainy, but having the sun out today really makes a big difference!

I went out today to visit the COE campground visitor center, but it was closed and no one around. I wanted to find a laundromat and find out about the nearby Tent Rocks Ntl Monument. So, I drove out to find the museum and bumped into a very nice laundromat, and since I had three weeks worth of laundry, I pulled in and did three large loads. Yea!! While there, and because laundromats are great places to get information, I found out that the nearby Cochiti Pueblo was locked down because they have 38 cases of Covid out of a couple of hundred people. There are actually security guards blocking the main road into the reservation. Apparently, in the first year of COVID, they only had two cases, but now it is very serious there. In addition, the Tent Rocks National Monument is inside the reservation, and it is run by members of the pueblo, so it is closed also.

Anyway, I am glad I got my laundry done, but there is no sightseeing around here, so I am going to call around to the museums in Santa Fe tomorrow and make plans for the weekend there. Might also head to Albuquerque next week as well. I could move campgrounds and drive less, but this one is extremely nice and only $10 per night. Great views of distant mountains and the lake.

it's funny what Judy said about having something phone ect that many in the family so if you need it you can get help... I had a phone before this one I think a Samsong although not sure Android though.... so when I had issues I'd call #4 daughter she would say I don't have that phone and try to help and she always would tell #3 dd that the next phone I got needed to be a Google Pixel so that is what I have and #3 tells me I have to go to #4 dd for help so I still call her but now she has an Apple... big help she will be... although I think I figured out why I wasn't hearing my phone ring ... was trying to figure out what to do as I wasn't hearing the phone wasn't getting text unless I happened to be looking at the phone and saw the screen light up... so went into settings looked up the ring thing and it looked like everything was turned up when I scrolled further down... it looked like I had somehow put it on do not disturb.... don't know how but took it off and now I hear that ping for notifications and text messages but no one has called so that will be the test I even changed my sound we will see I guess...
Barbi did anyone even come look at your house?
I was reading on Yahoo news that this great dane gave birth to 21 pups the poor thing... the record for a litter was 24 can't even imagine...
we had some snow today not much not what they predicted so went to the fish truck and got an order +1 fish stick put one in the freezer was really good... next time I go to Albertson's think I will get a pkg of cat fish it's frozen but only 3 fillet's so that is a doable There isn't enough room in the freezer compartment with everything else for the family packet... not something I have done is fry it usually go to a fish fry place for my cat fish or to my MIL's but she hasn't been an option for a very long time...
you all have a great day
