I would assume that the impact pushing the motor and frame back probably broke the windshield. You can also see that both doors are buckled from the impact as well. Liz's airbag went off, so she didn't hit the windshield.

On Edit: taking another look, it looks like maybe the hood actually got pushed into the lower windsheild.

Looking at those pictures made my belly do flip flops!!!

I am so very grateful that Liz's only boo boo was the cracked rib. I shudder to think what could have happened!!!
