I'm New Too!

Come on in and say hello.

I'm New Too!

Postby DorisAnn » Fri Feb 24, 2012 8:34 pm

Looks like a quite a few have joined this week. Me? Just today.
My husband and I have been fulltiming for two years next month. We are from Kansas but now have our state of residence in South Dakota. We have kids and grandkids in Kansas and will be making it back there in May to visit for about 6 or 7 weeks.
We are presently in the oilfields of South Texas working as gate guards. A solitary existence, hence my need to find this site and other women in the RV world.
During the summer we travel the midwest and southwest working at outdoor festivals and then down here to gate guard during the winter. We are in our mid fifties so still need to find work until we hit SS age.
We have two old girls, our dogs, Snickers and Skittles that travel with us. They're happy as long as they are with us. I'll post some pictures soon.
DH is retired Army, then a truck driver, then ran the base supply store at Ft. Riley KS. I met him when we were both in the Army at Ft. Sill OK. After completing my initial enlistment I've been a dental assistant, office peon, office manager and a few other varied careers.
We have wanted to be full time RVers since our early twenties, so when the opportunity came along we grabbed it. Sold the house in 2010, lived static outside our hometown for 10 months and then took off for parts unseen. Our festival work has taken us to Arizona, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Colorado, Nebraska, Michigan, Louisiana and back to Kansas. We've seen other places in between them and have enough time to enjoy them.
i look forward to getting to know ya'll and enjoying the camaraderie.

Hi Doris. Welcome to you and your hubby! I, too, have made SD my legal address. Works well for me. Jump in anywhere you please, and often. And we do like pictures :)

And if you're in TX now, would be great if you could join us for the gtg (get together) about to happen. Check out that room!

Welcome Doris,
I can imagine that the isolation of the gate guard work might make you climb right over the top of the 'house'. Hope it has been dull work for you as opposed to lots of excitement. Glad that you got out of jail early (got to quit work) and are enjoying your retirement early....even if you have to work to do what you want to do.

Is your guard duty on a contract for x number of months? Just spent a week down in the RGV and drove past severl of those gates while we were there and going and coming. Would love to have you meet up with us, but if you can't and are going to be around, give us an idea the location. Some of us will be heading out west towards Big Bend after the GTG and might be able to meet up with you in a nearby town if you have to make a Wally run.

The forum can be fun, informative and then not. So jump in make us have some fun with you.

Hi DorisAnn, Pleased you will be posting and hope you will share about your experiences on the road. I find it very interesting to hear how some of our ladies are finding jobs as they move around.

Welcome, Doris. I'm a permanent Texas resident, actually a native Texan. But I live a little north of you.

Welcome!!! Gee, sounds like our " story", too....we met in the Army...I finished my 6 yrs. and married to the man and the Army the rest... We "early retired" after Ernie retired not only from the Army in '92, but the Commonwealth of PA, too....I've been a dental assistant, CNA, Army recruiter, tele-marketer, and manager for Radio Shack....along with being wife, Mom, and Grandma....so, boy, can we relate.... We're finishing up our 4th yr. of camp hosting at Ft. Stewart, GA. Plans, now that Ernie is getting his SS, is heading west this summer after checking in with the crew in PA.....Been full-timing for 8 years....Hope to meet up with you to compare notes....
