A Piece of History is Gone Forever

The Michigan State Park system lost another piece of it's history yesterday when a fire destroyed a historic pavillion at Black Lake?Onaway State Park about 60 miles northeast of here. Here's a link to the story:

This link is to the park's web site. If you click on the link in the middle just above Calendar of Events, it will show you a slide show of the park and the pavillion that was destroyed.

It's always such a shame when something like this happens. It can be rebuilt, but you can't rebuild a piece of history once it's gone. The original stuff is lost forever.

Last year Bastrop State Park burned as part of the Texas Wildfires. Most of the park was blackened but all of the CCC era buildings were saved. Unfortunately, a lot of the town of Bastrop was damaged as well. To me it was a miracle that the historic part was saved.

Possum Kingdom SP further north in Texas also burned. And then the park out in far west Texas also burned. Drought and fires took a real toll here in Texas this year but they moved in and began repair work immediately on all the parks. State parks are very important in Texas. It's a shame when we lose one anywhere in the country.

What a shame.
