does any one know if there is a library some one without a full time address can join. a library that lends ebooks?
I had a friend ask me as they don't have a full time address and can't join local librarys.
and I noticed that books that were free on line a couple of years ago are now .99 or more.

I don't know of a library that lends books but Amazon has free ekindle books all the time on their web site. They list the 100 top paid and the 100 top free side by side. You don't have to have a Kindle there is a free app for that for your phone!

I don't know what kind of ereader you and your friends have but there are numerous blogs and email subscription services that notify you about tons of free and cheap ebooks.

I've been able to join a few libraries on my travels - but am going to be looking into doing that also - would be wonderful to "check-out" new releases which will never be free. I get the free books on B&N and other sites - but nothing like being able to read some of those new books by an author I love. Should have looked into it while here in TX - might yet. Will let you know if I do.

Your friend also has to have a legal address - might be able to join the libray there - and some libraries will let you take out ebooks from afar - so that's definintely worth looking into.

My local library has eReader books for members. I believe the books are downloaded online to your Kindle, which means you can be anywhere when you download the book. Have you checked with your home library? They may have a similar program.

She's trying to find out how to be a member - as she's fulltime - so that she can do that.

I joined our local library at home just before we left this year - had to wait until we'd formally established our residence there - i.e. Indiana drivers license -
I can check out up to 10 books at a time and keep them from 7 to 10 days - then they expire. I can download them from anywhere I have an internet connection - even here in Mexico. Not all books are always available - so I put "a hold" on them and as soon as they are available the library sends me an email and then I download them first to my laptop then tether my Nook and transfer them to the Nook.

The online library books are great and can be renewed online. I also request interlibrary loans when they do not have the book I want.

Perhaps a sales rep at Barnes and Noble will agree to download purchased books into your account for you. Might be worth a brief phone call to discuss since you are experiencing technical difficulties.

Some libraries allow non residents to purchase membership for a reasonable fee -- $25 to $50 a year. Sounds high, but it is a lot cheaper than buying all your books. This might be an option for the Canadian option if they winter anywhere in the U.S. for a while.
