Mattress

Postby kelpie » Sun Feb 12, 2012 2:34 pm

I have been thinking of replacing the mattress in my rig. It is a queen size with a foam topper but still isn't the most comfy. Here's my question. - can I just get a regular queen size or is it some weird size? I know I could probably just go measure the thing but have a new place to store it (free, instead of $30/month) but it's a bit of a drive. So what do you think? I use regular queen sheets and they are a little bit big.

Kellie, it may not be a true Queen size. The best thing is to measure.

Could be an RV queen - 6" shorter (60 x 74) than a regular queen (60 x 80). You can get RV queen size sheets at places like Camping World. Kind of expensive but fit much better than regular queen. Good luck

My 'Queen' in my RV is not a standard size...it is definitely smaller...so measure yours for sure.....

And I've seen several different sizes for both queen and full in rv's - so yep, what they all said, you have to measure :)

Thought mine was queen until I had to get a new one & I measured. It was 54 X 80. What's up w/that. Went with a full size but still use queen sheets for the length. Got mine at Walmart 8" Spa Sensation.

Yeah, the big issue will be the width. It is very snug at the head end between the built ins. I guess I will drive down and measure. Need to get a couple books anyway to lend someone.

SunshinecruiserTN has a pic of her new mattress on her blog.
Also Nan sent this link to me (knowing I will have to get mattress soon for my new RV too). It says they make custom sizes for RVs and boats and no tax or shipping charges.

Brochure says my corner bed is a queen too but already know it is not the same as queen in house

My bed was a queen, so purchased a 12 inch memory foam to replace the one originally in the rig, I now have a room full of mattress, but oooohhhh it is so comfortable.

You could also consider organic. I believe this place will make the size you want. They also do organic futons which might work.

For those buying memory foam mattresses - no need to get a custom made (at high prices). I now know of 2 people who have purchased sales on memory foam beds, then cut the mattress to fit. One person got this bed: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050J ... IBMXVIVCJ6 in queen size, and cut it. Yes, then the shell isn't quite right, but she was able to just take the extra of that after zipping it back on and push it under the bed. Something to think about :)

My rig's corner bed is queen size and the mattress was tight to the walls - hard to get my fingers down to make the bed. Discovered it was pretty much a queen width, but quite a bit shorter than standard. I replaced it with a standard double mattress and that length fits perfectly. Width gives me about 1 1/2" on each side for bed making. I'd say it's a good bet your queen isn't the same length as a standard house bed, but that may not be a problem for you if you have the extra foot end space. It may only extend out a few inches from the platform. Definitely need to measure.

Beth, I like your idea and will definitely consider that. I like the memory foam topper I have, but the mattress just stinks.

I was going to buy the bed in that link this year - after my friend did. However, I spent enough other money, that even at that good price, couldn't convince myself to do it - next year, maybe :) And I'll have to cut it, as my double isn't a true double. Although the double topper fit - who knows why.
