New from FL

Welcome Sharon. The others have pretty well said it all. It took me a while to get up the courage to do this alone and I spent a lot of time looking a rigs and researching on line. Being on a tight budget and needing a vehicle that I could us for both my pleasure, work and whatever else, I bought an 18ft. Rockwood Mini Lite and have been using that for the past two years. That frees my truck up for every day use. Since I work summers on one of our Michgan State Parks, I only use the trailer for a couple of overnigh camping trips at a time.

Right now I am getting to a crossroads of sorts in that I am getting ready to retire in a couple of years and want to spend the summer of 2014 traveling to some of the Western States I haven't seen yet and am not sure just what I want in terms of an RV to do that. There are pros and cons to both towing and not towing, so you kind of have to figure out which way you want to go.

As the others have said, there are lots of different rigs, ideas, suggestions etc. on this forum, so ask, respond and enjoy.

Hi Ladies. I just read all your welcome notes and I thank you all so much. I have not been on for about a week. I probably did not mention that one of my
passions is making jewelry. I had a large jewelry show last Saturday and it took me all week to prepare. I am back now and needing a rest. I appreciate all your advice.
I have been looking at born free rv's. they are just the right size for me. Now I have to find one I can afford. I am planning on paying cash so I do not owe anything.
I found a rv store in Ocala, Fl. I have been waiting to hear from him. He has had a few but not the perfect one for me yet. I can't wait to get started. Can someone tell me how to post a picture,, first my profile picture and then other pictures you may enjoy seeing, like my beautiful cat Sasha. Its raining tonight but still warm. loving the weather here in S.W. Florida.

I, too, love Born Frees but have never had one come available in my price range when I was looking. Lots of others have similar floor plans. Another lady on the forum was adamant she was going to buy a Born Free - she was also dealing with the man in Ocala. Maybe she'll see your post and be able to give how her dealings went. All I know is a couple weeks ago she bought a rig - brand new - not a Born Free and not from him. If you really want only a Born Free - then keep waiting and looking, but don't keep all your eggs with that one place - watch for them anywhere else they might appear also.

Sharon, welcome to the forum. And don't despair about age and gender on the road. I never RV'd before my husband died and now travel solo in a 35-foot motor home. I feel as safe in my MH as I do living in an American city. The only scary thing is the thought of breaking down. I find good towing insurance (I use Good Sam's emergency roadside service) eases those worries.

Hi Sharon....welcome. The ladies have given some really great advice & of course you can do anything you set your mind to...I happen to own a Born Free which I bought in 2004. Found it on the internet & flew to Oklahoma ( as I live in Northern Calif.) to pick it up from the Sellers. Wonderful people. They are expensive, true, but my experience has been that they are built so well that you don't end up pouring money into them for repairs, so it is worth they few extra $$$. Anyhow, you might check out the Born Free Owners website at
www.bornfreervclub.org.... you don't have to be a member to browse the site. On the first page go to the first box on your left where it says Leap'n Lions Club Info and Discussion Forum. Once you open that site, scan all the way down to close to the bottom where it says Born Free Coaches or Accessories for Sale....Very often there are for sale ads there. Many are in Florida...By the way, this site allows only ads to be placed by Owners...not Dealers so the pricing is reasonable & sometimes a 'steal'. Also, the Born Free website (the company/mfg. site that is located in Iowa) often has ads for Born Free RV's that are for sale in Florida.
Hope this helps you...if nothing else as suggested by others, do your homework...so you'll know exactly what will work for you...Meantime, don't give up the dream...Good luck

Hi and welcome. Are you working with American RV in Ocala? Sarah and I looked at what they had in Clermont. The born frees are expensive, they do have some great features. Sarah found her class C at an RV show in Tampa brand new for half of what they wanted for the born free. It is a very nice unit. So when you are looking at American RV look at others they have besides born free, they do have some. Also near you is Bartow Dusty's Camper World and they have some really nice buys. You might want to take a look.

I have a 32 foot class C, and am in the process of selling my house and going fulltime for awhile.

I live in north Florida near Gainesville, so if I can help, give me a yell.

I don't think so. Try again and if you are still having trouble create an entry on the General Talk thread asking this same question.

Good luck shopping for your house-on-wheels! If I had some funds to spare, I believe I would go for a Class B that I could drive anywhere and use for a regular van car as well as live in it. I have a trailer (19 footer) and Ford 150 short bed truck right now, which will have to do until I hit a lottery number! (If I ever decide to play, that is!) Hope to meet you down the line!
