What Season is the Anyway?

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

What Season is the Anyway?

Postby Colliemom » Sat Feb 04, 2012 7:45 am

Good Morning everyone,

Well, it's Saturday and another weekend has begun. But from looking at our weather forecast, I'm wondering what season we are supposed to be in anyway. I think it's winter, but it's sure acting like spring. And even some of you in the south have made remarks about flowers popping up already. But one of these days, I'm sure mom nature will remind us what season this is.

I'm having one of those mornings where I am awake earlier than I wanted to be, but finally rolled out of bed. Threw the girls out as I want Tessa to take care of P business. She's been having accidents in the house these past couple of days, and drinking al of water. Those are side effects of the Tamaril she is on, so i need to call the vet this morning when the office opens and see where to go from here with that stuff. If it isn't one thing it's another.

Well, it's official. I have typed up and will mail the letter to the Supervisor of Otsego Lake State Park and telling him that I have take a position at Burt Lake Stat Park near Indian River for this summer. That way he will have plenty of time to get his staff lined up. I'm not the only one who is not going back this year, as I know of two others and possibly a third that won't be. But thats's normal in the State Parks where college students graduate and go on to thier permanent jobs. So now I am working on seeing what i can do about a better gas mileage vehicle.

Barbie, you asked if I could take my trailer up there, the answer is no. These are not workcamping job, these are full time seasonal positions. We are classified as State Temporary Workers or STW's. These are jobs like anybody else has except they are short term. The state does not allow employes to camp for free in their campgrounds. The campgrounds are for campers. We can camp if we want, but for nor more than 15 days, must leave 5 days between stays and pay the full camping fee just like anybody else. It costs just as much, perhaps a bit more to go that route. And dogs cannot be left unattended either, plus I wouldn't want to leave them in the TT all day. So nope, I am commuting like everybody else. The dogs will be fine at home as I am making preps for a doggie door in the house here, so they can come and go in my fenced yard.

Carol, you are right about 38 miles not being anything. Up here people drive long distances to work everyday. My boss is driving 56 one way and her lead ranger also lives down this way, so she too has a long commute. My old boss has about a 60 mile drive to his park and the new supervisor at Otsego is probably driving at least 50 one way. I have a friend downstate who drives 75 one way to her job. I just a way of life especially up here where towns are small and you find work where you can.

Not sure what I am getting into today. Know I will be calling the vets office in about an hour. Need to run a vacum around here. Got a load of wash going already and may run up to the store as I am thinking that a meatloaf sounds good for supper tonight and I am out of ground meat at the moment. Eating my freezer down.

Have a good one everybody.

Good morning to All from pitch dark Mazatlan - AND I have the electric heater running and glad to have it.
Well the satellite quit working again sometime during the night. I'm pretty sure it is the router - we bought a new one but I can't get it installed correctly. We still have the Telcel wifi stick so will continute to use that - maybe we can find a computer person here somewhere who knows about wireless routers........-
Last night we went out on the town. To the monthly Art Walk in the Centro Historico. Some neat stuff and lots and lots of gringos walking around. Then had dinner in outdoor restaurant = splurged and had steak, baked potatoes, salad and veges. Not cheap at US$28. But good - All kinds of entertainment going on in the area.
We have to renew our RV space on the 10th - if we renew for a month the rate is much better - but not sure we want to stay here lhat much longer.....Bill is getting antsy about wanting to start to work with his leather stuff He's got all kinds of ideas now.
This year we will be here in town for Carnaval - it is quite a big thing here Like New Oreleans. Last night while we were eating one party was going on and they set off some fireworks - everyone about jumped out of their shoes. Tonight the Queen is being chosen.
Just wanted to let everyone know we are still around.
Take care in your travels and enjoy every day that comes along.

GOOD MORNING ALL!

Sue it sounds as if you are getting your mind wrapped around what you plan to do for a couple of more years before you retire and hit the roads. Hope Tessa is feeling beter soon so your household can resume its regularity.

Carol, what fun to be at a Mexican Carnival! It was good to hear from you, as it's been a while! Have fun, and I hope you get your internet problems solved soon.

The dogs and I got up at dawn so I could make sure Dinah got outside on time for that first pee, and we managed it! They have eaten, played with some squeak toys, and now both are lying down for a rest before our morning walk to Shingle Creek. Dinah chooses to lie in the open larger crate on the soft and comfy mattess in there, and Molly is at my feet here at the computer. All seems to be good here! I need to take some pics today, of the dogs and of my huge white rose outside the front door which makes the entire front yard smell like the sweetest perfume on earth! Today the rose will fall apart, I think, as it's been in bloom for the entire week I was at St. Cloud, so I need to hurry and catch it.

Other than practicing double-dog-walking and filling out my new patient forms for my new doc appointment on Monday, I am free! If it gets as warm as they are saying it could, I will go to the pool this afternoon after I get some groceries.

Hope you all have a great Saturday!

I hope to get outside as soon as the repair guy shows up to finish up a few things in the kitchen he started a week or two ago. He must be on what we call "beach time". Whenever the mood hits.

I hope to bike ride to the rv storage lot and visit with my rv. Quality time is so important. *chuckle* I want to toss a few items in for the Texas gtg...but its more about the bike ride than the loading. If the weather folks are right about the sun staying out today, I hope to get to the beach. My beach house is just blocks away.. but I haven't seen the water lately. The condos unfortunately block the view. They also block storm damage during hurricanes so they are a mixed blessing.

Perhaps while Mr. Fix It is here.. I'll ask if he knows someone to put in a 30amp hookup at the beach house. The driveway is small but I have some rv buddies with smaller rv's that could fit. If I hadn't of enlarged the fenced in area for my dog, my rv might of been able to squeeze in. Oh well.. hindsight. Hope my dog appreciates the trade off.

Good morning everyone!

It's another beautiful day in Ocala! We woke up to temperatures in the low 60's and we'll get into the upper 70's later on. The rain that's been in the forecast for the past couple days must be stalled somewhere as now we still have sunny skies. There is a chance of showers tomorrow, though.

Steve & I are back from our walk to the grocery store. We have to walk across a dual lane highway and it's about a 1/4 mile walk round trip. Needless to say, we don't buy much when we shop. We carry the fabric bags with shoulder straps to carry our groceries. Today Steve had one on each shoulder and I also had a bag. We should be good to go for the better part of a week. A roast is in the crockpot and I'll fix some sides to go with that.

Have a special day everyone!

I am up early as usual... its a chilly morning. i see frost on roofs and my lawn.. but suppose to warm up to at least 55 today.. with all this lovely weather it sure feels like camping weather.. cant wait to get the new awning material on, so i can get it home and arrange what i need to put back in it...

A friends son is coming to finish up my tree pruning.. i decided that since i slid down the ladder on my way down the other day i wasnt going to tackle that job anymore...

Everyone have a good day!

I think it's monsoon season here. There is a big line of storms between here and Texas. Our neighbors just left with their covered wagon and mules for a Mardi Gras trail ride. They are starting from the local school and going about 10 miles. They will be lucky if they don't get wet. If there was any place to park I would go watch them leave but I'm sure it will be a traffic jam. The police will have to stop traffic on the highway for them to get started. I told my DH he better saddle up his horse. That would be an exciting ride until she got tired. She hasn't been to "town" very many times. When I was in high school there was a trail ride from Bossier City to Plain Dealing that I went on 3 times. That was a hoot. We would ride 20 miles, have a BBQ and dance and camp out. Nothing like having a sweaty saddle pad for a pillow. lol

Georgeous, sunny, calm day in southern Michigan! Went out motorhome shopping and took my coat off in this 45 degree weather!

I did notice a few crocuses popping their tiny beginnings of leaves out. Hope we do not get really, really, cold weather or it will damage buds of trees and sprouting bulbs.

Sue, it does definitely look and feel like Spring, but I wouldn't guarantee it will be coming soon.

Kind of late getting on here today. I took my bike to the reservoir near work and rode it all the way around! It is 5 miles around it, which doesn't sound like much, but I haven't ridden a bike in years, and definately not that far, so it was a bit of a challenge for me but I did it! It is a very pretty lake.

I talked to my roommate today while I was cutting her hair. They are talking about getting married at the end of August, and she won't be moving in with him until then, so I will have more time than I thought to figure out where I want to go and what I can afford to do by then.

Hope you all have/had a good day!

Martha I love reading about your adventures on the farm! (Or is it a ranch?) I think I would have loved that kind of life that you are living.

Soos, it was a good life for a long time but not so much fun now. What we have is more of a farm than a ranch. Our house is on 22 acres. My DH has 6 other pieces of property scattered around but all of it flooded for Hurricanes Rita and Ike. Because of salt water we haven't been able to plant rice since Ike. I was born with the horse gene and as a kid I can't remember ever not wanting a horse. My dad was in the Air Force so I couldn't have a horse until I was in high school. I just can't tell you how much fun my friends and I had with our horses. We were in an area where everyone had horses and there was nothing more important to us. I don't know how I made it through school other than I would have been punished if I didn't pass. My DH trained horses for a long time and we showed cutting horses. I went back to work when health insurance became so expensive and I could get it through my job. Work and kids just became too much and I finally quit riding. Haven't been on a horse in a long time. If I could ride for fun it would be one thing but my DH's mind set is that you always have to be training. Your hands have to be here and your feet have to be here and why did you stop there and make the horse do that. Rather than have a divorce over a horse it's easier to not ride.

I think where you live in NY is beautiful but I wouldn't have put up with the snow as long as you did. Now you have the best of two areas. Warm weather in Florida in the winter and your park like home in NY.

Seems a shame to give up something you enjoyed so much, do you have friends where you could board a horse or rent a place to keep one. That way you could say your going on a long shopping trip and enjoy yourself. :D

Martha, where there's a will there is a way. If you want to have a horse? Get one. When hubby starts his "training mode" on you? Look him dead in the eye and say, "Why? I'm not training for anything, this is for my pleasure!"

I've had a couple of horses and enjoyed the heck right out of them. Use to tick one of my parents friends off big time. He was like what your hubby sounds like. I asked him 'why' he was always after me to "train myself and the horse"? I was informed that it was what I was suppose to do! If I had one of the horses out he couldn't help himself, he would end the conversation with one or both of my parents and start directing me. I would ask him why, then continue to do what I wanted. Or ride off. Good grief it drove him wild. I had thought about about showing? The quarter horse was trained for show and I did work at it for awhile. She was good enough and I guess I could have? But showing wasn't really my focus. My horses and riding were for pure pleasure!!! Would love to do some riding again tho. When I had the horses my parents never had to worry about where I was or what I was doing. Every spare minute and every penny I could earn went to care and feeding of those hay burners!!!! :D :D

Echo, I know what you mean about being focused on your horse. I started working in high school to pay for horse feed and horse shoes. Horses are an expensive hobby and more so today than then. I think I'll just stick with my RVing, another expensive hobby.
