It's more or less official, retirement begins March 1! I've been finally making some visible progress on the downsizing, so things are (strangely) proceeding as planned.

Joke for the day:

There was a snake called Nate. His purpose in life was to stay in the desert and guard the lever. Theis lever was no ordinary lever. It was the lever that if moved would destroy the world. Nate took his job very seriously. He let nothing get close to the lever.

One day off in the distance he saw a cloud of dust. He kept his eye on it because he was guarding the lever. The dust cloud continued to move closer to the lever. Nate saw that it was a huge boulder and it was heading straight for the lever!

Nate thought about what he could do to save the world. He decided if he could get in front of the boulder he could deflect it and it would miss the lever. Nate slithered quickly to intersect the boulder. The boulder ran over Nate, but it was, in fact, deflected, leaving history to conclude that is was better Nate than lever.

that's a good one. Good morning and thanks for starting the Coffee this morning. And congrats on the upcoming retirement. You will be off to a "new" chapter in your life. Are you planning to keep a stick and bricks and just travel at you whim or go full time? There are so many ladies making retirement plans on this forum, it's hard to keep track of who's doing what.

Bit cloudy here this morning, but supposed to see some sun later on. We are in the middle of a mild weather pattern for awhile here and no precip in the forecast. Be nice if it was March, then we could cheer it on and watch the snow melt.

Decided that while the weather is nice, it's time to get out and take a ride north to Indian River. That's where the park I am thinking of working at is. Thought I would go talk to my Supervisor friend up there and see what she has in mind as far as positions, hours, etc. and also just to visit. We miss each other after working together for 14 years. It's really nice when you can work with or for somebody who can be your boss as well as a friend, and you can tow the line between. We had a really good "family" atmosphere at Otsego for the past few years, but we knew that work was work and play time came afterwards. It makes for strong staff like that. If you care for each other and care for the people you work for, you will also care for those you serve. There were and are many lasting friendships over the years. I need to decide within the next three weeks or so, as the current supervisor at Otsego wants to know who's coming back or not, by March 9th.

So I think I will probably take Sassy along for the ride and leave "sickie" home. She has inproved dramatically these past couple of days and starting tomorrow, I will be reducing her meds down gradually till they are gone. But I am not taking her on any walk just yet. Thought maybe this weekend I might just take her for a short one on the road here if we can walk it. Right now it's pretty icy.
She sees the vet next week. I need to check on the Bordella shots for them. I thought that both have had it but maybe not.

Well, today is Groundhog Day. Will he or won't he? Our local chief meteorologist thinks he won't due to the weather pattern that's supposed to be out there. But they are having fun with it this year talking about how accurate "Phil" has been as opposed to their scientific stuff etc. It's all in the fun. they can do all kinds of computerized graphics on the extended forecast page now, like snow or rain falling, 4th of July firewords, flags flying etc. and today they have this cute Groundhog on.

Guess I will mosey along here and read some more posts, make a couple of more and then head to the kitchen and do the dishes. Am not leaving till later this morning as am waiting for the day to get it's act together first. We have all day anyway. Hope you all enjoy it no matter what.

Happy Ghog Day to each of you. I hope he sees his shadow. Sun is a good thing! Still a little foggy here in South Central Texas at Choke Canyon Lake. Will be doing a bird walk this morning and then if we get the sun, some water time in the kayak this afternoon. Fooey may do the water time without the sun as long as all other things are good.

Red-winged Blackbirds are singing outside. Mr. Cardinal woke me this morning (the 2nd time) by singing in the tree just outside the bedroom window. Haven't heard any Green Jays this morning, but they will be around soon.

Didn't ride my bike yesterday as I chickened out because of rain. I think I could of made it before it got too wet out but that is hindsight. However, while having the convenience and carrying space of an automobile.. I stopped at the store.. and lo and behold.. xmas stuff still there.. and on sale.

This little Elf was in seventh heaven.

This past xmas I -really- got into the decorating thing. I'm already gearing up for the next decorating season.

Today, will see if I can get all the stuff I bought into the bike cart and haul it to the beach house. What I really enjoyed when making these purchases.. other than each item only being ten cents.... was the conversation with fellow shoppers. One lady was making purchases for charity and another lady must have lived at the North Pole with her xmas decorating enthusiasm. She saw me as a kindred spirit.

So even though I was disappointed about not riding my bike yesterday, it was a very good day indeed.

Morning!

Well, Phil did see his shadow. Obviously, he wasn't in Texas this morning. In fact, it's supposed to be soggy all weekend around the Big City. So I guess I will be canceling my camping plans - we live mostly outside when we camp and being cooped up with 2 BIG wet dogs, let's just say things would be a little stinky. But I'm bummed. I needed the recharge time.

Plus, I want to be able to say that I used the trailer every month this year. I know this is just the first weekend of the month but I have every other Friday off - this being one of 2 and I'll have to see how school is going for the next weekend off.

Oh well, I can study at home or at the library - won't be as nice as sitting under the awning looking at trees and water and laughing at the two pups.

Now that I've had my whine, may I have some cheese?

Today is lazy again so whats new nothing... Shadow and I are being very laid back... may not even go outside today...
I need to make coffee and think about what I will do... so many choices...

I'll whine too. I hung around all day yesterday waiting for a glass place to come fix a broken window. They couldn't give me a time and haven't heard from them this morning. My experience with most businesses is that you tell them to call so you can be home and they call when they get here.

It rained again last night and more forecast for the rest of the week. It's suppose to cool off next week. We will miss our 70 degree weather.

Over the years I have planted bulbs 3 or 4 times and none have ever come up. Last year Walmart was selling Daffodils that were blooming in pots so I planted some. Yea, they came back up and are blooming. Now I need to find some kind of border so my family won't mow them. My DH hates anything he has to mow around. I planted the flowers around the pecan tree since he has to mow around it anyway. Besides, I'm the one that does most of the mowing anyway. Need to prune my roses this month too. One of the bushes really got away from me and it's about 8' tall.

Guess I better find something to do around here while I wait for the glass people.

Afternoon update. Rode my bike for 16 miles -and- hit another xmas sale. What a great day! Yesterday while running errands by car, I was a tad grumpy. Bike riding really is a stress reliever. Today while on my bike, I passed a lady on a trike... and we chatted a bit. The trike was new to her and she was just getting use to it. I told her that I use to have a trike until very recently. But my shopping trips were to the point that I needed to get a cart. Granted, a cart would go behind a trike but then you have the weight issue. Trikes are harder to pedal than bikes. Trikes will give you legs of steel!

When driving a car, you don't often chat with the people you pass.

I recently bought a little whiteboard and wipe off pen to keep in the car, so if someone has a brake light out or something I can write a friendly little message to let them know. If i can scramble to find it in the car and write it in time, and if the wipe off pen hasn't dried out in the meantime, and if the other car doesn't speed away from the crazy woman waving a whiteboard with something unintelligible scrawled on it.

One must have one's little amusements.
