Water spray bottle works with Spinner....have to re-inforce it every once in awhile, but usually, just picking it up and saying "No Bark" does the job.. ;)

Update:
There's a new anti-bark collar that does not shock nor spray citronella. It simply vibrates. They said I can return it if it doesn't work. So far so good. Seems to be working. Simba is still anxious, doesn't relax, but at least he's quiet and is not able to hurt himself. This may work. Got it at Pet Smart. It's called, "Vibration Bark Control Collar" by Pet Safe.

I really like Cesar, so I'm voting for the Dog Whisperer. I bet you'd end up being a segment. Worth it if the problem is resolved.

Oh, Liz, I really hope this continues to do the trick. And, with time, hopefully the rest of the stuff will get better. If the barking stops - you can relax so much more. Sounds so promising, so far. And I like so much that it's not shocking. Not that I wouldn't go that route if necessary, but the vibration sounds better to me.

Fingers and toes crossed for you, Liz. I refuse to comment on the vibrator - holding hand over mouth to keep it shut.

It really does seem as if Simba is calming down a little. The small, but welcome successes you described were after little Simba was so tired he slept all night and the spray bottle. Are these techniques still working? I do hope so. Except for barking, Simba seems to be a wonderful dog and could end up being a very special companion.

That is excellent news. Sometimes it takes them awhile to figure out what you're asking them to do. Until then, a frustrated or confused dog may misbehave. You are doing a great job. Patience is the key. Bravo.

The spray bottle only works if I'm there to spray it. But the vibrating collar is working great to stop the barking. It didn't solve the Simba's anxiety, as he still waits anxiously for my return, but it solves my anxiety. Hopefully in time, and as he matures, and my comings and goings become routine....his anxiety will lessen as well.

I had a little dog for many years that slept on my slippers during the day until they became his. My cat enjoys laying on a small blanket I use when watching TV. Perhaps placing something small in Simba's crate that has your scent would help.

By now, Liz, you could become an advocate or a non-advocate for nearly all the products out there in petland stores! I do hope you have been able to return the non-working items!

The vibrating collar sounds like a gentle reminder, whithout causing more anxiety, that barking is a NO-NO.....and, as you say, it doesn't relieve
Simba's separation anxiety (yet) but at least with your being more confident about leaving him, he can detect less anxiety on your part which may lead to more relaxation for you both down the line!

Molly and Dinah and I are sending calming thoughts to Simba!
