I don't expect to take my kayak into tidal waters. On lakes, I prefer to paddle close to shore where there is a better chance to see wildlife, and easier to get to shore if the weather suddenly changes. Always check the weather forecast before boating, and watch the sky while boating. And always wear your pfd. They can't help you if it's in the kayak and you're not.

Same here, Liz. In AK, the one I want to take, into Prince William Sound, will also be in a group - in their kayaks. But there is a lot of inland waters we can use.

Can't believe there are so many from this forum going to Alaska this summer. I'm going too - but I am flying. Have friends that went up there two years ago to work camp in one of the state parks on the Kenai peninsula. They are now in Homer but plan to come back south this fall. I took them up on their invitation and will be going up in July. Still no set itinerary. Who knows, maybe our paths will cross.

You are going to be in Homer???? Be sure to look up Sue Henry, the writer. She has a series on a 60-something woman who travels around in her RV with her Dachshund Stretch solving mysteries. Tell her to get on with the writing--her fans are waiting.

I absolutely LOVE Homer. Was hard to leave when I was there. How long will you be staying up there?

I'm planning on a couple of weeks. I'm kind of leaving the planning up to my friends, but I know we will be on the go!

It never ceases to amazes me how sweet you gals are! I love this forum and you gals! It warms my heart when I see how yall rally around each other in bad times and in good. I feel so blessed to be one of you and get to enjoy all of ya'lls adventures of which I can live vicariously until the day when we can take off. My mom & dad are both still with me/us and it will be some time before we can take off,, but we are sure planning hard! We got our second "item" towards our next life...a Jeep wrangler 09. We are thrilled w/ it. Also here a while back I ordered one of those maps w/ the states you can add as you travel thru them. It's in my closet along w/ the plates I had bought a few yrs back for those pot lucks that camper groups have in some campgrounds.

Anyway,, again I want to thank you all for the sweet congratulations on our wedding and the well wishes for Roy to regain his health.

I also want to say I wish the best to all of you that are going through some kind of difficulty these days.

And to Mitch,, hoping you are getting back to your old self and getting on w/ the fun in your life. I guess I need to read some of the pages on the forum and catch up w/ all of you guys.

Later, gators,,,

love you all!

Janet I gotta get a new pic on here of Roy, the jeep and his dog ROscoe. I just hate messing w/ photobucket! (sorry Bethie)
