Any interest in a mid April 2012 GTG in AR?

Postby bikerchic777 » Sun Jan 08, 2012 1:05 am

Hey everyone! I splurged on a ticket to the Workamper News Rendezvous April 17-19. I never seem to be able to make it to the big GTG's because of my workamping commitments and would love to see as many of you as I can. Is anyone else going to the Rendezvous in Heber Springs, AR? I will be heading up to IA and then MI from there and we could GTG somewhere on that route, also. Would love to hear if there is any interest. Not sure what cg I will be staying at in AR, but probably the state park there. Need to be checking on that.

Linda, What a surprise...you are coming to the Rendezvous! I live in Heber Springs. I had wanted to go to the one last October and I do plan to go to this one, better get my reservations made. There is one large privately owned on the river, large sites and can accomodate groups but is about 10 miles from town. I am really not sure about the corp of engineer parks..only a few have full hookups. I will do some inquiring.

That would be great! I'm so excited to know you will be there, too! Would be nice if we could make it into a big GTG, wouldn't it? Army Corps of Engineers are always nice and roomy, too. I don't need full hookups for just a few nights, if they don't have them. If I was "mature enough" for the Golden Age Pass, I would stay there for sure. If you have that, it's half price at USACE parks. I'm anxious to know what you find out. If you live there, you probably won't stay at a campground, right?

Nancy....There are 13 campgrounds at the USACE at Greer's Ferry. Maybe you could take a drive around the lake and see which campgrounds look the best.

Linda, Workampers might help with this decision but tho there are many campgrounds, you will want one closest to the location of the Rendevous. I would recommend 'Damsite CG'. I do know some of the planned activities are at Damsite too. I live near one but it is also 10 miles out. I think they have upgraded quite a lot in the last few years and Damsite is one of the largest ones. I always liked 'Heber Springs CG' but it is about 8 miles from Rendevous. The reservation procedure is different too but WK will be the best bet for help. I'll be in touch with you with any new info.

That is very helpful info! Thanks! I will look at Damsite again, but I think it only has walk-up sites available. At least the Rendezvous is mid week, so I should be able to get in. I would like to stay as close as possible in case I can get home for lunch. Wish there was some response on a GTG. It may be just you and me!

Linda, it isn't that some of us won't love to be there! (Right now I would love to be anywhere besides Ohio)....but in April I hope to be busy working and earning $$$$ here in Ohio in anticipation of the road to Alaska later this spring. :D And from experience any gtg is a good thing. Large ones are wonderful but the amount of talking and sharing in small groups is priceless. :? But you probably already sort of know that. :)

I have met several of the girls at small gtg's and I thoroughly enjoyed them! I'm also looking forward to meeting Nancy :D It is hard for me to make it to the large GTG's since I'm a workamper and they seem to be during the "seasons". I'm hoping there is another FL GTG next winter, as I plan to be down there after Christmas.

Nancy...I checked on the Dam Site CG and there are no reservations until peak season. All sites are walk in only. I don't think it will be any problem getting in, as I will get there on a weekday and there are a lot of sites. I think they are electric only, but there are showers and I can usually park close enough to a water spigot to run my hoses if I need more water, but should be OK for that short time. I can dump and fill before I park.

You might be a little lonely there being April but it is a beautiful park. WK will keep you so busy (as they have cookouts and after hour activities at least one evening. I posted on General Talk just now. I'm sorry I haven't seemed to be much help to you but in a week or two I hope to feel more human. I will drive over and take some pictures for you. I hope I can get them uploaded, if not, then I will need your email address and can send them to you. For the others who think this might even be a possibility, I don't think they will be sorry. This is a beautiful little town, nestled in the hills surrounded by a beautiful lake. You might want to stay a day or two longer to see the area. Keep in mind, get your 'spirits' before coming, we are 'dry' here.

I won't be lonely! It will be a welcome change. Not sure yet if Ken will caravan with me there or if he will go a different route. I invited him, anyway. It sounds nice there! I love USACE parks. You know I worked at Saylorville Lake in Iowa and loved it there! I was off by myself there, as I was a custodian in a day use area. Got used to the solitude at night. I will PM you my email address. That is so nice of you to offer to take photos! Thank you! Have you been sick? As for the "spirits"...thanks for the heads up. Not sure if I will be drinking, anyway. I have been trying to get my tummy well.
