so enjoyed your pictures don't know where we were but sure missed that awesome sunset! love the sunsets here...there are foxes out here as well you might if you are lucky see....first time I saw the woodpecker get on the hummer feeder I couldn't believe it totally amazed me...then there is the little Verdin a yellow headed small bird sat there on the hummer's feeder and proceeded to go after I thought the nectar turned out it was the sugar crystals that they go after...love the desert

Couldn't have said it better myself... This is just how I feel. My comment of being "just a girl" was most definately tongue-in-cheek. If there was anything additonal that I really needed, as far as my campsite set up goes, I would do it. But, I am perfectly satisfied with the basic and simple way I have things set up in my campsite...all my needs are met even without all the bells and whistles...

I thought I posted to this before going to work today. If I just missed my post - well, I'm posting it again. I love all the pictures, but really love seeing the woodpecker drinking the nectar. How kewl is that?

Glad you like it there. You sound right at home.

Yes, I was thrilled when I looked up from my computer table and saw a roadrunner looking at me from the fire pit. What a kick...it has a "humorous" way about it. He seemed to be very bright and appeared to be expecting to find a handout. I read that they will frequent yours site if you put out some liver....yuck. Wouldn't you know it, I am just fresh out of liver....

I never thought about what Roadrunners ate so had to look it up. One of the things they eat are rattle snakes so I would be encouraging one to hang around. I have a package of liver used for fish bait but it wasn't in the best shape the last time it was refrozen. lol They also eat lizards, small mammals, bugs and other birds.

I am excited to see your photos as I have been trying to get someone to go to that area to camp with the quad!! Now that I have seen these, maybe I'll leave him and the quad here!! We very seldom see roadrunners in this area - one on a trail once in awhile. My late DH and I bought the grandkids a book several years ago about roadrunners, Lizards for Lunch. Thanks for the post!

I can't tell you how many miles and miles and miles of road there is...everyone but me has a quad. I just treat my truck like a quad...heck it has four wheels. Anyway, today I went up to the base of the Dome Rock Range and it was a wonderland of desert beauty...I went nuts at how beautiful it was...there were more plants and the washes were full of more plants than down lower and it was awesome the mountains jut straight up and swirl with patterns of lava. There are many dozens, if not hundreds of active gold mines, in this area (literally, no exaggeration...they are everywhere). I went up into the LaPosa mountains and I am tellin ya, there are endless roads everywhere...But, the mind-blowing greatest place is the Kofa mountains, it's a protected refuge for mountian sheep. This whole place is "quad freakin heaven!!!

Oooh thanks for posting the pictures. We were in Quartzsite in October. I love the desert. When we were there a roadrunner dashed across the road in front of the jeep. I expected Willy Coyote to be not far behind! Always enjoy reading your posts. Someday I'll get to spend the winters there. Time to leave Minnesota and enjoy some other part of the US while still able. Who knows. DH would like to move to the Kansas city area and I am agreeable with that as long as we get to spend longer times in AZ/ New Mexico & Utah.
