Video about White/Albino deers

I saw this on FB this morning and thought you all might enjoy it as much as I did. It has a lot of great pictures of the albino deers in Wisconsin. There used to be some near where I live but no one has seen them that I know of lately.

That is so interesting! I am glad they are protected by law. They have a hard enough time protecting themselves from predators.

They sure are beautiful, but to me, (despite the talk about albinism on the video) they are but mutations and not true albinos. Unless scientists have totally changed the definition of albinism, (which, according to this video, they have) true albino creatures lack any coloration genes whatsoever, hence leaving them with colorless eyes as well as an entirely colorless body. Colorless eyes allow one to see the blood vessels which are reddish-looking----sort of like viewing their blood inside. The North Pole tourist attraction at home in upstate NY used to have a herd of white deer like these, with colored eyes. We were always told they weren't albinos, but a variation of the norm, or mutations. A few escaped the confines of their pens, and, unfortunately, did not survive many, if any, hunting seasons. They are truly beautiful creatures no matter what one chooses to call them!

Albino humans have no coloration whatsoever----white hair, eerie white skin, and colorless eyes that look red.

Interesting study by this man, and he has taken some amazing videos and photos.

I really enjoyed that; gives a whole new definition of "white tail". I noticed they are a white tail deer. I loved the fact that even the antlers were white...how fairytaleish and mystical it appears...or should I say fairy"tailish"

I saw a number of "calico" elk on Washington's Olympic Pennisula many years ago when I was hiking out to the beach from Lake Ozette. Washington has the singular priviledge of having a unique "type" of elk called the "Olympic" elk, as they are a herd that is found only on the Olympic Pennisula. In the herd are the rare calico, seen by only a few of us lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. Actually, the greatest majority of the pennnisula has no roads into any back country so they have a great place to thrive.
