Cookie Baking Thursday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Cookie Baking Thursday

Postby Colliemom » Thu Dec 08, 2011 8:46 am

Good Morning everyone,

Finally rolled out of bed this morning. Hate sleeping in a bit later as I'm a morning person and that's when I want to get doing. But I think these shorter days make us hibernate more and the bed feels so comfty. I know once the days get light earlier, I am up and at em early. Even the dogs are lazy in the mornngs right now.

A chilly, wintery morning here this morning. We had a little snow late yesterday afternoon and evening. Not a lot, just enough to turn the ground white. And there's a pretty good breeze blowing this mornng as well. They say the wind chill is around 10 degrees.

So it's a good day to be inside and baking cookies. I'm going to make some Spritz (butter) cookies today. They are my favorite and everybody else's too. The butter is sitting on the counter, softing up while I have breakfast here. A half a grapefruit, bacon and eggs. Might not have to worry about lunch, as we have to "sample" any cookies we bake to make sure they came out right before we pass any on to others, right

i spent all day yesterday shopping for what I needed to bake today, stocking up on some other foods, checking out printers etc. Finally found a printer that I think will do the job for what I want. An HP Photosmart 6510. I've had HP's before and they performed very well as did the Canon I had also. This one uses a bit cheaper ink then some of the others and other than getting my annual Christmas letter done, I don't have a lot of printing to do. I have some pictures that I want to enlarge to hang on my walls, so it will be good for that. At the moment it's still in the box, but I will get at it either later today or before the weekend gets away from me.

Kathleen, your daughter will be up and doing after her knee surgery, before you know it. I have a friend who just had both of hers done over the past 3 months and she bounced back remarkedly well, and she's older than I am. Within two weeks of having the second one done, she was even able to get into my truck to go to lunch one day. I think she has a couple of more therapy sessions to go and then she will be done. But she sure feels better for it all. And able to move around so much better.

Well, enough chatter for this morning. Time to get moving here. Change my bed, get out of my jammies and get cleaned up for that hot date in the kitchen  Come on over and let's bake cookies. Always more fun when there's more than one person around. And I have OJ, bacon, sausage and eggs if anybody want's breakfast or some toast with some of that yummy wheat, raisin and walnut bread I brought back from the U.P.

Enjoy your day all, no matter what and keep safe if you are on the road.

GOOD MORNING SUE AND ALL!

I'd love to come over to make some cookies, Sue----I miss doing that. Maybe Melissa will help me make some this year.

It's cool here in Orlando, too, but not cold! It was about 43 when I got up, but the heavy-duty wind made if feel like the 30s-----still mild for December, for me! However, the temperatures will climb back up to the normal 70s over the next two days. I tried turning on my funrnace for the first time this morning, and the house promptly filled up with nasty-smelling fumes and smoke, so I hurriedly turned it all off, opened doors, and ran outside to make sure no flames were coming from under my eaves! This was the first time the furnace had been turned on since last January, I guess, and the service repair company told me it would take a while to burn off the dust in the system. However, I have an appointment for them to come this afternoon and turn it on for me, and make sure nothing in the attic is catching on fire! I also left a call in to my son who works here in Orlando, unless he is off on a conference somewhere. It's really still quite warm in here by my standards, so I am not worrying. Molly has her fur, and I have my fleecey things on. The sun will soon be shining in and warming us up in no time.

I can't wait to go back to the trailer for a while, after I hear from the kids that they have had enough space and time since Wiley and the bimbo left. On my way, I will stop and try again to get my FL ID card. Hope you all have a good Thursday!

Sue, I meant to post this yesterday when I read of your search for a printer. I don't know if you fax much or if you have a land line phone but I will make a suggestion from my own experience. I manage our business from home. I kept my landline phone for a couple of years just to have the use of a fax machine. I finally decided to buy a kodak all in one printer and found how incredibly easy it was to scan all my documents and send by email attachment anything I had originally faxed. The quality was far better than my little cheap fax machine. I was able to remove my landline phone saving over 100 dollars a month.
From your email you seem to have made up your mind but wanted to share with you. By the way, I purchased my Kodak a couple of years ago which means they are probably even better now but mine makes great pictures.
Cookies sound yummy, I make my Russian Tea Cakes, no time to worry about butter :D

There is an odd yellow ball in the sky today! I am off tho see what it is and get a biscuit at mcDonalds and some of those hooks that come off to hang my garland around the front door. Have a good safe and fun day all. I will take a few of those cookies, thank you very much Sue. Wendy

Wow it must be contagious I can see it here too... feels good!!

Sue I will be over to help... I used to make cookies for two days... not bake them but make rolls to cut as we needed them... the bottom shelf of the frig was always full at holiday time... I do not make cookies anymore... those were different times...

Soos I hope there is nothing wrong with the furnace... at least they will come this afternoon and check it out for you...

Oh yes Sue we are hoping she recovers fast... she has rheumatoid arthritis as does her sister Gwen... it has not caused deformity but has caused much pain in the joints and now the damaged knee... my friend Virginia had a knee replaced three weeks ago and she is doing fine... but she is 74!! Jackie should do much better because she is 53...

Have a good day everyone...

Kathleen, I had both knees done, but three years apart. With my second, more difficult knee, I live alone so I did stairs immediately, took out the trash and vacuumed at one week, and drove at 2.5 weeks! (Can you tell I am a little hyper and had cabin fever?) After all the pain of arthritis in my knees, recovery was long but a lot less painful than I had expected.

Cloudy with a little snow expected here is southeastern Michigan, but we are expected to have a sunny weekend and part of next week, whcih isn't too bad.

I have been getting some minor repairs done to my condo so I can put it up for sale on March 1. Also started taking some of my photos and other junk off some walls so I can patch holes made by nails and tape and get things looking less cluttered.

I am REALLY doing this!! Hope to have the condo sold, car sold, buy a motorhome, quit one of my two jobs, and start collecting SS by June 1!! So much junk to clean out, however, so just the thought of doing all of this exhausts me.

Hang in there, Judy. Make a list and just tackle one job at a time, cross it off, and only do another when you feel like it. I have faith in you!

One step at a time, Judy.

Soos sent me a pm today where she told me I'd be crying before it was over, and I was. It was another of our past forum members telling her that she SHOULD retire, etc. Don't let it exhaust you - just take one step at a time - and before you know it, you're there. Hahaha - there I go speaking - I purchased my mn for part time use (supposedly) in mid-March - and within a week decided that wouldn't do - outfitted it in the next week and drove it 1000 miles to get it licensed properly - flew home where I had to make up stories, as I couldnt' put in notice to work and my charities for a couple more months - which meant I also couldn't publicly sell anything, etc. When I could I had only a few weeks left. So, take your time, in a busy type way :)
