Cross country expedition 2011

Postby Girlzonwheels » Sat Dec 03, 2011 8:02 am

Hi all,

My partner and I are relocating to San Diego from NYC. Instead of taking a boring plane ride we have decided to rent an RV, pack up our 15 month old daughter and two cats and drive there over 3 weeks. We will take a southernly route hitting Georgia, Miss.,Texas, NM....to name a few. :P This will be our first time driving an RV. (25 feet) We leave Dec 19th!

Wish us luck! lol. We may need it. This may be the best idea we have ever had, or the worst. I will let you know!! :D

Oh, I hope that you discover the joys of rving during this trip. It's a wonderful way to see the country. Make sure to take the back roads - very doable in a 25 foot. And if you let your route be known, you just might get to meet up with some of the forum sisters on your way - who will make sure if you have any questions, or things you want to see in their areas - they can help.

I think you've picked a great way to travel cross country :)

Good for the two of you, I mean the three of you. She won't remember this one but if you love this enough to continue taking her to see our wonderful and diverse country she will no doubt be part of a coming generation of WRV'ers one day :D Good luck and like Beth said keep us up to date on your trip and no doubt you will meet some of us along the way. You might find yourselves with many Godgrandmothers  I drive a 24' motor home and it is a perfect size to venture off the beaten path without a toad. Keep in touch!

We will end up in central San Diego. We need to check out the neighborhoods a bit because we are thinking about buying when we get there. I will try to post some travel pics from the road about our adventures. I bought a holiday pig that lights up since we will be on the road for Christmas and New Years. lol Other RVers should get a kick out of that.

Welcome. And let us know when it its you that three weeks isn't enough and you make a pledge to yourselves to try this lifestyle/travel style out much more in the future .... :) Definitely look on the member's map and send PM's. If folks are out of town or busy for the holidays they can say or...they can meet you for a breakfast/lunch/dinner somewhere along the highway..... :D

A great way to go from East to West. :D I think it is a great idea. You may like it so much, you will continue to travel by RV for future vacations, etc. Looking forward to hearing about your experience along the way. And of course, the pictures, too! :D

What a wonderful way to move!!! Being a "Retired Army Wife" I have fond memories of us traveling from PA to CO & TX after returning from Germany by car....so can say you'll enjoy the trip....and having your lodging on wheels will save $$$....by all means, keep us posted on your route...we're always game for a mini-GTG here, if possible....travel safe and welcome....

Congrats on your move. I'm from San Diego - as for neighborhoods just stay away from the border area (Chula Vista, Otay Mesa, San Ysidro, etc) . "East" San Diego tends to be a gang area. Mira Mesa, Kearney Mesa, Poway area all safer areas. They are inland so are also much warmer than the coastal area. San Diego coastal areas can be in the 70's and areas only 25 miles inland can be in the 90's at the same time. State income taxes are also pretty high which is one of the reasons I retired to Texas - that and my Daughter and GD live here. Its a beautiful area and there are times when I really miss it but between the traffic and crime rate I was kinda glad to leave. You used to be able to call the San Diego Police Department and they would tell you which areas had the highest crime rate. If in your travels you get anywhere near Kerrville, Texas (off I-10, exit 508) let me know and I'd love to meet you for dinner.

My brother's a real estate agent in San Diego, and I know some other folks who do real estate in the area. Let me know if you'd like their numbers.

WELCOME, Griz!

What a super way to move across the country! Your little one can be on the road and at home all at the same time! I hate to be ignorant, but what on earth is a holiday pig??? (You will soon learn that I have a lot of problems with terms and words and abbreviations that most others know with no questions!)

I can't wait 'til you learn how to post pictures so we can follow your journey.

Happy travels!
