Howdy from South Georgia

Come on in and say hello.

Howdy from South Georgia

Postby Lnesmith » Sun Nov 27, 2011 5:44 pm

Hello, ladies! I'm new to the RV hobby or lifestyle - for me and for now it will be a hobby. I've been following a couple of other forums, but this one was recommended to me by a lady on one of them. My mom and I recently purchased a R-Pod 172; my 7 year old daughter will be traveling with us, so it'll be an RV FULL of women! We've over-nighted in our driveway and the local state park, and during Thanksgiving used it for guest accommodations. Hoping to get in a couple more short trips during Christmas holidays. Mom is retired but I work as an assistant principal and of course my daughter is in school. For now work and other commitments will keep us close to home. I have horses and would love after retirement to get a horse trailer with living quarters and wander from state park to state park.

In the meantime, we'll enjoy the R-Pod and enjoy the moment. Thanks for sharing your community!

Welcome and glad to have you with us. Has to be a good camping trip with all the women :)

Where in south Georgia? I love the Savannah area. And if you can make it into Florida this winter, check out the get together (GTG) that'll be happening there over the winter. Maybe your group could make it for part of the time. It's always fun when any of this bunch can meet up. Whether that's in the cards or not - there will be other gtg's - and there are many small ones as we travel.

Thanks for the great intro.

Hi and welcome to the forum! I'll be staying in Georgia for a couple weeks just after Christmas just southwest of Atlanta. From there I'll be going to the GTG in FL. It would be great if you could meet up with some of the group!

Greetings from one educator to another! :)

Sounds like you've got a great trailer to start exploring this whole RVing lifestyle. It's a great way to get away, even if it's for just a weekend. I've found that it sure helps the mental health if I know that I'm going to be taking off for a short while in the midst of the craziness of school (I teach 5th grade). Scheduling a getaway every 4-6 weeks seems to be my M.O. during the school year, and so far I haven't killed any kids as a result. ;)

Glad you've found us. But beware ... we're merciless when it comes to expecting pictures.

Again, welcome!

Where in South Georgia? I'm headed to Folkston next week. Have only visited the area once so looking forward to my 6 month stay and really seeing the area. I see you're in the education biz. I just took an early retirement from Nashville city schools. I miss the classroom and the kids but not the politics and writing long, boring lesson plans. I may look for some opportunities to tutor or sub in the area. Oh well, enough about me. Let us hear more about you and your rv and your trips. Pix are fun. I admit that I am nosey too.

I've been lurking for a while before joining and have enjoyed both the information and the fun found here. Thanks for all the welcomes!

I live just outside the big ole town of Doerun, down in southwest Georgia. In addition to my mom and daughter, I share my home with a Boston terrier named Dixie and a Pomeranian named Cinnamon. We also have 12 horses/ponies, 5 cats, and a variable number of chickens - dependng on how bold the coyotes have been lately.

Horizon seeker, I across the state from Folkston but familiar with the area. I've visited the swamp many times, done some tent-camping in the past. Summer before last, my dad and I kayaked the Georgia State Parks Paddlers Club challenge, which includes a paddle through the Okeefenokee - gators everywhere, most of them bigger than my kayak! It was a fun adventure. Gotta figure out how to haul the kayaks along with the TT! Enjoy your time there and if I get over that way i'll give you a 'holler'.

I don't know if I'll be able to make the January GTG in Florida - sounds like fun. If not this one, maybe another.

I'll try to share some pictures soon - I've figured out that is pretty much mandatory here

Leanne, Welcome to the forum. I loved it that you camped out in the driveway first. No doubt all of you will have some fun adventures during your breaks and vacation time.. This will be an education in itself for your daughter and what great "While I was on summer break" stories :D

Welcome to the forum from a neighbor in Florida. You are close to some great camping places in your area. You and the "girls" are going to have a lot of fun exploring them.

Thanks for the info. I plan to try and see more of south GA during my stay. Being in middle TN means I've seen a lot of north GA so I figure this is my chance to explore new territory. If I get over your way I'll give you a shout.

Welcome Leann! I hate to be the one to break the news to you, and seems the rest of the group are being mum on the subject, but hobbies have a way of turning into passions, so don't be surprised when you find yourself planning trips, calling in sick, thinking of home schooling so you can travel and going to rv shows dreaming of something you can full time in with pets and a daughter! It started out as just a hobby with a lot of the girls and now they're on the road full time!
