I was one of those salwarts who had to have a real tree. And hated taking it down, too. Today, if I was in a house with a basement, I'd get a smaller fake tree, decorate it - and when Christmas was over, get a couple large black bags, cover the tree while still decorated) and move it to the basement until the next year. Forget about taking it apart and having to do it again another year. Lazy? I guess so. But I be every year I did that I'd mumble and grumble that I should have got a real tree. Being on the road - doesn't bother me a bit to not have one.

We haven't put the tree up in two years since my parents passed away. At first, just not in the mood. Now, we go away for the holidays so it really seems a lot of work when we will not be here anyway. We hang pre-decorated greenery swags on the loft and staircase banister and set out Christmas snowglobes. I had a miniature artificial tree we take along for the hotel room, that serves for the decorating along with a couple of poinsettias. It is a lot easier. It's our new tradition.

Kathleen, no more vacuuming for you!!!
