Wood Stork Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wood Stork Saturday

I looked out my window just in time this morning to watch them flying in...wave after wave of Wood Storks.

They landed in my little spot of water, and I was just getting ready for some great pics when someone started shooting...

And scared them all away!

Alas! What a short visit that was.

Going off today with the red hats from church to the Cross Creek Festival. Expect my youngest dd tonight with the 2 gds from GA. They have the whole week off from school. SIL has to work so can't come. We have some fun planned this week with the other dd too.

(((Hugs))) to Lenora and Beth and others who are mourning this week. It's hard anytime, but seems to be worse when it happens around the holidays.

Realized I didn't post yesterday, but wanted to tell Tina what a gorgeous photo that was! So glad the puppers got you out to take a picture.

Saturday, The Day before

Postby Colliemom » Sat Nov 19, 2011 8:12 am

Good Morning everybody,

Well, it is Saturday, the day before we leave for our trip North for the Thanksgiving holiday week. Boy, neither of us can wait to hit the road, although tomorrow's weather forecast is not the greatest. A bit of the white stuff to contend with for a little while, but nothing serious and supposed to clear out by mid day here, which means we will drive out of it on the way north as we go. I hope :)

Brenda arrived yesterday afternoon with a van ful of stuff and so tomorow morning we will attempt to stuff all this stuff and my stuff into the back of my truck. We may need to rent a U Haul trailer to take along  One thing for sure, we could get snowed in for a month and won't starve to death. We have plenty of food if any of you want to come and join us for breakfast, lunch or dinner or all three :) And today we are heading to the store to pick up some last minute stuff we need and will add it to the pile of boxes already packed with food stuffs aand two coolers full. Guess I will have to take a picture of this when we get it all shoved in there.

I've got a bit of packing to do today also, getting my clothes into their packing bags and into the suitcase. No big deal. Have a load of wash in the dryer from yesterday that I forgot about, so need to fold that up and put it away. Wound up running the snow blower over the drive yesterday morning and getting rid of about 6 inches of heavy wet snow from the day before. It's been melting down really fast but there is stilll snow out there, so I am glad I did it. Gives me a chance to see if my blower is working okay too after I changed it's oil and lubricated all points etc for the season. After all, it's been sitting here for almost 8 months doing nothing.

Carol, enjoy your trips to Mexico. Hope all goes well crossing the border. Will enjoy seeing the pictures of your trip as you progress to your destination,

Tina, thank you for the lovely picture of the sunrise. That was beautiful. Have to laugh at your furry companins. That looks like something mine would do. And with all those bodies on the bed, I'm sure the bed was nice and warm when you climbed in. Or did you wind up sleeping on the sofa

Lenora, I'm so sorry to hear about your nephew's wife. You most certainly have had a rough year and more than your fair share this year. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. May the good Lord bless you and your family and keep you in his care.

Well, Brenday is up and I guess it's time to see what we want to rustle up for breakfast around here. We certainlly have a zillion choices. Think it's going to be a ham, mushroom, cheese oemlet. Come and join us.

Sue, it sounds like you are in for a great trip...lots of food, friends and relaxation. Enjoy!!

I have some company for the weekend also and we are all going to the mystery dinner theater sponsored by the local humane society. As I understand it, each table tries to solve the mystery as performed by the actors. The winning table gets a prize (probably dog food). It is sort of like the game Clue which was always a favorite of mine..Colonel Mustard in the conservatory (never knew what that was) with the candlestick.

I am starting to clean this house in preparation for Thanksgiving and I never realized how dusty the chair rungs are..who looks down there unless you drop your spoon????

Sorry your 'shoot' was interrupted Liz. I've never heard of Wood Storks, pretty birds. Do people hunt them like geese? Deer are in season here and they are everywhere day and night.

Looks like the rain is coming in here before too long, hope it waits until I go to the Farmers Market and walk. Our Market closes at the end of the month so want to stock up on a few items like garlic, squash & sweet potatoes.

Hope everyone enjoys their day, safe travels to those on the road.

GOOD MORNING LIZ, BJ, AND ALL!

I've been up for hours, exploring laptops with Windows XP for the operating system. I need to upgrade my computer so I can use Skype as it should be used, and so I am up to date with all the stuff offered on the internet these days. This refurbished Acer Travelmate I bought years ago has been a wonderful deal, however, and I can't complain as I spent very little for it and it has been used a lot. It's my only computer while I am down here in FL all winter, and on the roads or camping.

It's an awesomely beautiful day down here----fantastic breeze, temps in the low 80s, sunny, idyllic! Molly and I are going for a walk along the East Lake Toho waterfront in St. Cloud, and I will check out the beach there for swimming possibilities.

What a shame that a hunter ruined you photo opportunity this morning, Liz, but at least you managed to get a couple of pics. I'm not sure if I have ever seen wood storks before. It sounds as if you have a fun week coming up with your family!

Off we go now to get dressed in our walking clothes and to enjoy this fantastic FL weather. The kids should be saying "I do" right about now in Costa Rica, hopefully. It's hard to not hear from them until they land safely back here. I am imagining what's happening, and I guess that'll have to do for now!

Hope all have a good day doing something that will make you smile, if even for just a bit!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

You were extemely lucky to see so many of these birds. Wood Storks are very rare highly endangered birds that live in Southern Florida. I certainly hope no one is shooting at them because it is a federal offense.

Many years ago when my children were small, we saw thousands nesting in the tops of bald cypress trees in the National Audabond Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. If you are anywhere north of Naples and south of Ft. Myers, don't miss this wonderful place.

Good Morning everyone... oh the pictures you did get Liz are wonderful... that really bothered me when I stayed at Sportsmans cove when I would hear the hunters guns go off... I think that season is in a while... sometimes people get a kick out of yelling just to see so many birds take off... they will be back and then you can hopefully get more pictures...
My daughter came over yesterday afternoon and we went shopping for an hour it tired me out...
Shadow got into something most likely poop and was very very sick last night... the 5th time it even made me sick...
I am so sorry for the losses some of our members have suffered... I trust you are all healing and will be back up and about very soon... life is really hard at times... I send each of you warm hugs...
Have a good day everyone...

Good afternoon everyone!

It's way past noontime, but I have a few minutes in between cooking and wanted to stop in and say hello.

First, I want to send my condolences to those suffering with losses. They seem to be heavy this year and my prayers are with all of you.

I have sauce simmering for lasagna that we'll have for our dinner this evening. In a couple of hours, I'll put the dish together. Hubby just made a batch of flourless peanut butter cookies that he likes, so I guess that will be our dessert.

The weather has been delightful, with lots of sunshine and autumn breezes. We have camping friends coming for dinner and then we'll play some games, since it is no longer camping season here. Have a good day everyone!

Afternoon All

I am still here in Eureka CA until the middle of January. My contract is up on the 14th. My neighbors that I became friends with left this morning for Nogales (warmer weather). I am soooo jealous. I wanted to go too. I am getting that darn "hitch itch". I am not taking another assignment after this one for a while. I want to go for fun in the MH. Now just have to figure out where to go.

I work 12hr shifts BUT only 3 of them a week. I love them, gives me lots of time for exploring. I have seen all the BIG RED trees I want to see here tho, and the ocean doesn't do anything for me other than its pretty to look at. I hate sand!!!!! I am buffering my "slush fund" so I can take time off. Gas went down 3cents a gallon here...big whoop it is now $3.96/gal. Everything is very expensive in this town and there is no real economy to speak of, guess they think the ocean and bay close by make up for it. The mountains here have snow on them....now what is up with that???

I have a leak in the front of my MH that drips on my dash. Had the mobile repair guy out once and he caulked around all my clearance lights but when the rain came the drip came back so he came out today (not raining right this minute) and found a break in the seal around my window so he tried resealing that. He didnt want any money for this trip but I made him take $20 as he made a trip out here special for me. AND I only called him an hour ago....good service. He is very reliable and reasonable anyway. Nice fellow too. He has done a couple small things for me here at other times and didnt charge me as he was already in the park so I felt good about the well spent $$$ He does lots of work for people in this RV PARK.

Will be thinking of everyone at all the darn GTG's I have to miss. But will be looking for pictures

Good pix Liz - thanks for sharing.

Karen if you're looking for warmer - lots of people head to AZ. There's the big "RV show" in Quartzsite, AZ think it's mid Jan. Supposed to go with a group of LoWs people I met here locally when they had a campout about a month or so ago. Nice people. Let me know if you're interested.
