I've always felt that the best tribute I could ever give one of my pets would be to rescue another one and give it a loving home. I never thought of it as being disloyal but honoring the memory of the one who left me. Not sure if I will replace Buddy when his time comes cause I still have my Sophie but you never know. I'm not sure if I could get used to only having one dog in my bed.

It took me a year, after vowing that I would not have another pet, to adopt Maggie Mae. Losing my two previous dogs was heartbreaking. I had one for 16 years and the other for about 14 years simultaneously. Now that Maggie is in my life, I could not imagine not having her too. It takes a while to grieve, but pet lovers have big hearts and lots of love to share.

that makes me cry, I still miss Bandit so much and recently looking at a lot of his pictures from over the years, well, he was just the best bud I ever had and I still grieve for him. Had to put the pictues back away, will look at them again another day.

As you well know, it isn't always us that makes that decision. Sometimes the "if, when and who" is decided for us by the animal itself, like when Buddy came into your life.

Personally, I don't believe I could ever be without a canine companion to share my life. Each and every one I lose tears me apart, but then, another puts a piece of me back together. Each little doggy soul has a different offering to share, and each one I grow to love always seems like my "favorite". Now that I have had to gain and lose so many "favorites" over the years, I know I will always have a favorite camping with me.
