Best State Parks in the Nation

Postby Colliemom » Wed Nov 02, 2011 3:58 pm

I just got an official word today that Michigan's State Parks have won the award of "Best State Parks in the Nation" from the National Parks Association. Wow. Image

Guess all our hard work has paid off. My former Lead Ranger who is now a Park Supervisor told me about it and said that we all have a right to be proud. So I am bragging Image

We also have some of the most beautiful scenery in the country--three major Great Lakes shorelines surround us here in Michigan and we have thousands of interior lakes as well, so there are lot of beautiful places to locate state parks.

If you have never been to upper Michigan, you are missing something unique and important.

AND, we are the only state where we have a ready-made map by holding out our left hands!! (There is a trick for making an Upper Peninsula also with your hand, but it is a little trickier.) I live at the base of the thumb, way down south. Colliemom lives in the middle of the four fingers.

Now, while you are holding out your hand, palm away from you, some of the best wineries in the Midwest are at the tip of your little finger. Great national park there also--Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park.

I spent a lot of my childhood at our summer cottage at the tip of the thumb, overlooking Lake Huron.

Now, if Michigan weren't so dang cold all winter, I would not be planning on leaving.
