Our dog is part Springer so she jumps like a maniac. She's had a torn ACL for years but we can't afford the $6000 or so to fix it. However, she does just fine. If we notice her leg is bothering her, we just give her some ibuprofen made for dogs (the vet prescribes it) and have taken a wait-and-see attitude. Our vet says she may continue to be fine just with occasional ibuprofen for many years. And, if we fix it, she may just damage it again as you can't take the "spring" out of a Springer. If she tears the other one, we may have to do something. But right now she can still run, jump, and greatly annoy anyone coming into the house with her springiness.
The biggest problem with our dog is food allergies and, I suspect, environmental seasonal allergies. She itches like a fool. She's on a special diet, and when it gets too bad, I feed her Benadryl to knock her out for some blessed relief for all of us. We also give her oatmeal baths although now if we head into the bathroom, for any reason, she runs the other way.
