Walkthrough and Inspection

Walkthrough and Inspection

Postby AlmostThere » Wed Oct 19, 2011 9:27 pm

Today was the inspection and walkthrough on Little Missy by my new mobile RV repairman. Originally I called him about my carbon monoxide detector malfunction and asked if he could do a walkthrough with me when he came back to put in the new one. I am so happy as I learned so much about the care and maintenance on an RV. Although he found some minor things, he was pleased with her overall.

In the inspection he found no gas leaks; drained/cleaned out the hot water heater and checked the anode (it barely had any crud on it); figured out why my fridge wasn't switching over to gas (cracked porcelain connector); checked ALL the seam seals and showed me places where the factory missed; checked both engine and house batteries and talked at length about them ( gonna fix it so my house battery charges when the engine is running); found out why the AC wasn't blowing out any of the smaller vents and fixed that; oiled my steps and now they retract in further than they ever did; talked about dumping the tanks; checked the generator and ran it with a load (it got an A); checked the furnace; and showed me the button to push so the TV switches over to antenna (wondered why I wasn't getting any reception, I got 24 channels just by pushing the button and not even raising the antenna)!

Anyway, he is hoping to get back on the 26th to redo the seams, do the wiring for charging my house battery and replace the broken porcelain connector for my fridge.

Sounds like you got a goodun'! Better make him some cookies and treat him right so he keeps coming back.

Definitely sounds like an inspection that was well worth it. Like Sharon said, glad you found a good 'un.

What a great idea having that done. It would be good especially for anyone buying from an individual where no walk through is provided. Glad Lil Missy got an A.

He also shared that an RV built on an aluminum frame is better; lighter and less expensive/extensive to repair if you should have something like water damage. I asked about putting in wood flooring and he said he has been doing allot of repairs on those because of all the movement when traveling. He suggested a wood look alike vinyl.

Wood floorings can be heavy also - and the look alikes today really do look like wood. They've come along way, baby :)

I put the vinyl in Hope and everyone thinks it's wood....

Sounds like a great recommendation for many of us. The walk through when you pick up the "baby" never seems to cover all the detail stuff that comes up and it is difficult to remember everything especially stuff when you have no experience with the unit. A private inservice/tutoring after you get your feet wet seems like an excellent way to get to the next level of understanding and comfort regarding all the details of RVs. :)

Happy to hear Lil Missy went through her inspection with only a few minor problems. The walkthrough was a good idea, too.

Whoopee, that's a great idea. Glad you got a good report. It's comforting to have more knowledge about our homes. WTG.

Good job Lenora!! You are lucky to have found someone reliable like that. What button do you push to get TV reception without cable hookup and using the antenna?? Still haven't figured that one out.

Thanks,
Linda

The button is inside the cabinet next to my TV. It looks like a recepticle only instead of outlets it has a small red button to push and below that a round dime sized hole where something (?) else can connect into it.
