Postby snowball » Mon Oct 17, 2011 11:34 pm

I'm hoping for some advice a couple of months ago I started hearing sounds like a ringing or buzzing which I thought was the lights or something but when it followed me to the car or other buildings began to wonder if I had for some reasons that syndrome which I can't remember the name of right now starts with a T though and I'm sure you will know what it is
My question is what to do about it??? what works ??? How to make it go away
sounds like a giant buggggg
and I would like it gone!

Hi There!

Tinnitus is the term for a ringing in your ears, or noise in your ears. I have suffered from it all my life. Sometimes, especially if it just came on, it can be caused by a wax plug in one or both ears. Otherwise, nobody knows what causes it or how to treat it! There are many suggestions on the internet, and many doctors have different approaches for treatment, but I have yet to find anything that has helped my situation. The theory is that the sounds are caused by the circulation of blood in your inner ear. Another theory is it's the electrical impulses from the normal tension in your jaw muscles that your ears are picking up. The only thing that helps me is having a radio or a TV on continually, or being outside in the spring when the frogs and toads are singing all night! Mostly, I have had to learn to ignore the annoying sound, but it truly never ceases. Sometimes it gets louder, but never goes away. If you want to know what it's like, try clenching your jaw really hard, or resisting closing your lower jaw, using your jaw muscles in overdrive. For me, the noise then becomes exaggerated, but it's the same sound I hear all the time.

You should definitely go to a hearing specialist for a thorough ear checkup and hearing test to make sure there is nothing physically wrong or in your ear canals. If all else gets ruled out, welcome to the annoying world of tinnitus! It is a common affliction, apparently, but only drives a small percentage of those who suffer from it crazy. The worst times for me are when I am in total silence, as when I am outside at night under a clear, black sky, watching the stars.

Blood pressure may also play a part in this annoying thing----be sure to have yours checked. I have also suffered from high blood pressure all my life, even though I am always on meds to treat it.

Good luck! And, if you discover something to shut the sound off, PLEASE let me know about it!

Happy travels!

What Soos said. Good advice as I get it, too, periodically. Mine is from water in the ear. I have to be really careful when I shower. Another reason I am not a swimmer.

I too have an odd noise in both ears... there is (and I cannot remember what the name is) something you can get at the pharmacy that is suppose to help but it was expensive and I did not buy it... It will be interesting to know what you find out...

What Soos said says it all for me. I have it also - since my hearing loss. Sometimes it doesn't bother me as much - usually if there is another sould I can listen to instead. Worst is when I go to bed, as I don't like a tv etc on - and without anything else, then I hear it and it can keep me from sleeping. Have considered those "white noise" machines, but so far have been able to get by without.

I am amazed at how many people have tinnitus, as I also have it. I thought I inherited it from my father since he has it. Most times it sounds like fluorescent lamps in fixtures buzzing. I don't notice it as much if I can listen to background noise, like a radio or TV. I've thought about trying medication for it, but if it doesn't get any worse than it is right now, I'm going to try to go without for as long as possible.

I didn't have it until I hurt my back and was taking a lot of aspirin every day.

A visit to the Ear, Nose & throat specialist is the first thing to do. Yes it sounds like tinnitus.

There is a number of serious consequenced to "too many aspirin" if you hear buzzing from them that is WAY TOO MANY ASPIRIN. Strokes, heart failure, internal bleeding, aneurysm, eye tissue damage from bleeding, uterine, and or sinus, hemorhage. You are far far better off getting a narcotic pain reliever for an acute problem. That's what those powerful pain pills are for. They are far better than too many aspirin...Dr. Kathy, here....is quite concerned about you taking too many aspirin. Don't be afraid of oxycodone, vicadin, that is exactly what they are for. They will cause no harm to you and your use is likely short-term. People who get addicted to narcartics do so because they want to, they have addictive tendencies and they aren't using self control.

I said a lot of aspirin; not too many. It was around 4 a day but was every day for a while.

I've been hearing that forever; I just take it as the "hum of the Universe" the sound of "Energy", "Higher Vibrations" etc (warning, I am the "metaphysical woo-woo type ;) ) Sometimes, I meditate on it, kinda relax into it, it can be uplifting! It might be that so many people have "tinnitus" these days is we are experiencing a sort of spiritual evolution, Or maybe 2012?

Also, on a more physical level, I think I've heard blood pressure can do it.

Vicodin has tylenol in it, so you need to be careful about liver damage. If you take too many vicodin or you combine vicodin with other sources of tylenol, you can go over the recommended dosage.

Check with your pharmacist what other meds you are taking, such as cough or cold medicine, that contain tylenol so you can get an accurate daily total.
