Brilliant idea...or not!

Brilliant idea...or not!

Since I seem to need to dump my black tank fairly often and I'm not at a campground I had a flash. There is this white thing sticking out of the ground in out front of our house and the plumber said to take the cap off & look in it to see if water was running through it if I had ever a drain problem. I think it is attached to the main city sewer line. So, couldn't I just use it to dump my tanks? That would be so convenient!

the cap should say sewer on it, or perhaps a previous owner had it put in for their rv for that very purpose.
My sister had one put in for their rv and in fact they had electrical put in as well and a cement pad. My biological
parents used to go visit and hook up their motorhome. As long as its not hooked up to storm drain you should be
fine. Storm drain and sewer go to different places.

You need to confirm it's a sewer line. If it is, yep, you should be able to use it to dump.

We had and old sewer line on the side of our house by the driveway that was capped. When my sister and BIL came and parked there for a month they used it. As long as it's still connected, it's good to go. Wasn't that a "make my day" find :D carold

Maybe it's some kind of clean out access for your house. Our old house has a septic tank behind it and I have used it a few times to dump my tanks. I have to run hose about 30 foot but is handy in a bind. Hope that is a sewer drain that you can use. Would be really convenient.

It is probably the cleanout based on what the plumber told you. Last summer I stayed at my deceased father-in-law's property for a month. Thought I would have to haul the 5vr out to dump the tanks at least once. Since he had the world's narrowest driveway with deep ditches on each side, I asked my brother-in-law if he knew if there was a cleanout since it wasn't visible. He told me it was about 2 feet away from the house out from a little x marked on the siding. It was about 6 inches below ground so I dug it up, took the cap off it and dumped my tanks. Sure saved me from a lot of frustration in getting in and out of that driveway.

I have a septic tank here so often use the covered pipe that sticks up to empty my camper's tanks. I have to use extra length of hose so I don't drive and park over the septic tank. Makes things very convenient when not able to dump before returning home. Linda

It is indeed probably a clean out, and Yes, you can indeed use them as a dump.
