I intend to spend most of my time in Quartzsite. I have a little concern that I may go nuts there and will have to pick up and head for Imperial Dam area..and frequent Yuma. But, of course, I don't don't know if I really will get bored with Quartzsite. I would very much like to sell my paintings while I am there so will see what is involved with that....I would be delighted to meet up with you while I am there. I should be there by the end of this month...

Oh my, KD----you were living what my nightmares consist of! I just wish you had been able to stay in touch with us throughout the ordeal, as I have really missed your writing and thoughts. Some day I hope to meet the Kracken!

I hope your travels become smoother from here on out, and I will remember your escapades when I attempt to cross any high mountain passes some day! Thanks for updating us, and I hope to hear from you more often! I still have a picture in my mind that you described from some place on a hill by the water that you wrote about a long time back----I love the way you write, and I would some day love to see what you paint!

Good for you, kd in letting them have it! I was already so disgusted with auto mechanics when I had transmission problems with my Dodge. When I walked into the non-dealer shop, I immediately told them (laughingly) I wasn't fond of mechanics, that the campground owner had recommended them so it would be good if they didn't prove him wrong. I could not have been in better hands! My most recent bad experience was with the Dodge dealer in Tacoma.

I stay 35 miles east of Quartzsite during the winter. Sounds like there will be a few around for at least a mini-GTG.

Wishing you safe and trouble free travels from here on.

I join the others in welcoming your posts once more...sorry to hear of the problems, but it sounds like you're back on the road again and happily accomplished some negotiations resulting in your favor. If we don't hold their feet to the fire, no doubt there would be many more highway robberies going on. A lifestyle that is near utopian must hit a few snags along the way, as we are dealing with mechanics and human error... Thank goodness, it is also an education and a test for our patience and most of all our assertiveness if needed after feminine charm fails us. Keep in touch and pictures please..oh yes, good luck with sales of your paintings.

Yes, I am glad to put this all behind me. In hindsight I see how odd life can be; I expend all this energy being angry and frustrated when in reality the whole event is nothing in comparison to what others experience. I am retired and have all the time in the world. Some folks are jobless, homeless, experiencing the horrors of a wartorn society, trapped in these circumstances without hope and any number of issues that far surpass my little issue of an old women being mistreated by a mechanic outfit. How odd it is that we can't take ourselves out of our own experience and see the bigger picture. Only after you get "out of the moment" can you look at it differently. Then again, it would be very odd if we didn't deal with situations at the base level, the whole human experience simply is one-on-one. It boiled down to being mistreated, the Kracken doesn't like it when the Kracken is mistreated. Lot's of soul-searching.

I am rambling here with wierd thoughts. But the other day I had a thought regarding how we are in our core makeup, be it nurture or nature or a combination thereof we all have a core personality. I realize we can change some things but core traits won't change. It's akin to saying,"You are made of "topaz" why don't you try to be more like the people that are "sapphire" they don't care about injustice toward themselves or anyone else, you really should try to be more "sapphire."
Aint gonna happen, we are what we are,we may have polished up or cut some facets along the way but a topaz is a topaz is a topaz.

You did the right thing for all of us by laying into that dealership! They deserve everything they got.

I find the older I get, the less patient and grumpier I get. I think it is because time is so important to me these days, and how dare these service people figure they can take all the time they want, with no consideration to our needs or feelings.

At least you got out relatively unscathed and maybe they will be more considerate to the next person.

I hope to meet you sometime at one of the GTG -- in the East ? I have to say that I started laughing when reading the part about all the workers looking out the window to check out the crazy lady, only to see you hop out and head their way. Have to admit that by the time we are old enough to be called old, we finally learn how to deal with tough situations. I never would have thought of all the places you called about the repair shop. That was impressive!

Probably a good idea to ask your friend how many miles before the first oil change. Wonder if it is similar to buying a new car where the first oil change is recommended for less miles than later oil changes?

Sounds like someone should organize a Southwest GTG this winter! There are quite a few of us out here in California, Utah, and Arizona and maybe some from Texas or Colorado would like to come too. Quartzite would be a good middle point for most of us. Anyone interested in planning one?

Maybe we should have a section for "BAD MECHANICS BEWARE". We can warn other members there about mechanics and it would be easy to find who to avoid in areas.

Glad you are back on the road. Maybe the venting release the pressure on the cooker.
