I'm an official RVer

Postby Redetotry » Sat Oct 08, 2011 6:22 pm

I just completed the final exam I did my first dump!! Well, I had supervision but I DID IT. It was touch & go because as I took off the cap to where it drains, icky stuff started coming out but it wasn't much and the guy supervising said that happens sometimes and be sure to push the things you pull out all the way back in. He told me to go ahead & hook up the drain hose but I told him to wait just a second I thought I was going to throw up but I didn't thank goodness and I went ahead and finished the dirty deed with no other trauma. So, I think that makes me a real RVer!

It get's easier the more experience you have doing that wonderful job. It is wonderful because it is nice that as you drive down the road you have your 'potty' with you. When I think about that it really makes me smile. Your supervisor is right, be sure you push the handle(s) in all the way. If you still have some stuff coming out, have it checked out. The seals will wear with time and when they wear down, they leak. For those of us that have only slightly used/aged rigs (mine is 6 years old) we need to be thinking about having those replaced. Mine will get replaced next week as the grey one has developed a drip at dumping. And replacing now is better than later when it gets worse.

I am so glad you are now an Official RVer. You know you were before that event because you overnighted not on one occasion but on two.

Hey BJ...cowgirl up! It's a dirty job...but somebody has to do it. Sure the heck beats the alternative which is having to tramp to an outdoor biffy or a nature break in the weeds in the middle of the night!

Yea for BJ......I always remind myself, it is only "stuff" :o ....and I have really good soap and water should I need it! :) And I agree with Birdie, my bladder so appreciates having the "necessities" so close at hand. I'll manage the "dump" process. Now cleaning up "vomit" ...that is a whole other story. :? But regarding the bringing my own facilities with me.... My "wait" a minute muscles aren't what they used to be!

Congrats BJ, I am so jealous, wish it was me  (kind of a funny statement when ya think about it,)

My niece has a Pleasure Way. I gave her a plastic storage bin to use when dumping . It is the size of a foil roasting pan. She puts it down under the area where the hose hooks up. This way if the valves weren't pushed in all the way, or jiggles loose during a trip, the "stuff" will go in there and not all over the ground. Real easy clean up should it be necessary. I use a plastic container with higher sides for the truck camper. Linda

That sounds like a good idea and I think I will have the seals replaced after reading what Birdie said.
