Bad News - Good News

Postby asirimarco » Tue Sep 27, 2011 6:47 pm

If any one has been reading the blog you know that we received a phone call about Alfie yesterday from the RV doc. Basically they said "You need a new roof" WHAT?! My stomach dropped to the floor. Yep - while we were in Elkhart we noticed stains on the ceiling - hum not there before. So we asked them to check it out. They did and discovered that when the wind last winter tore the cover off it caused extensive damage to the roof and it had been leaking - so there is soft wood there too. Also after more checking they decided the wind had caught the awning of the slide and weakened the braces for it too. ANYWAY - we called our insurance company - Progressive Insurance - yesterday afternoon to talk to them. They said they would send an adjuster out [there goes our plans for getting out of here any time soon] Well this morning we drove over to the RV doc to get a couple of things out that I forgot in Alfie and much to our surprise the adjuster had already been there and left a check for the repairs - over $9000 + he will send us another check for the cover that was destroyed. The RV doc has already ordered the parts. Less than 24 hours!
We've had Progressive for years - mainly because they cover the RV in Mexico - they won't pay to repair it there but they will transport it back to the US and then pay for repairs.
Wrote a little more about it in my blog.

That's amazing to get a response that fast, AND get a big check to pay for it all too! Great!

This is the reason I have Progressive. I've heard several stories similar to this and even tho I pay a little more to have them it's worth it to me for the peace of mind. Thankfully I haven't had to test them yet. Hopefully you and the Driver will be able to get on the road soon and your rv place is as fast as the insurance co!

That is a VERY good ad for Progressive. I will keep that in mind for my someday RV.

Many, many years ago, I was involved in a head-on collision with a lady who turned left in front of me. I was so impressed with State Farm's handling of my claim against the other driver, we switched to them and stayed with them for 35 years. I recently switched to AAA for home and car because they were cheaper, but I hate, hate, hate their "Press 1 for ..., etc" answering machine that I am about ready to pay more and switch back.

What good customer service you got from Progressive! No arguing, no having to make multiple calls, etc. I am impressed.

The good news was better than the bad - although that would have been so scary at first. Kudos to Progressive.

That's how I felt about Hartford/AARP when I had my claim. In fact, the person who came out asked where my awning was - told him I lost it on the road - he said, you didn't claim it? I said I didn't think it would have been worth it with my deductible. He said, well it sure is now, and added it in and sent me a check.

Maybe we can't complain as much as we like to about insurance - except health insurance - no matter what good I hear about health insurance, I hear more bad. Ok, best shut up.

Hope the repairs don't take too long and you can get on your journey.

YAY for Progressive! I only hope Good Sam will be as efficient and productive, should I ever need to ask them for a claim.

I hope your repairs won't take too long. Thank heavens you discovered the damage now.
