Tuesday morning is grabbing us

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Tuesday morning is grabbing us

Postby Echo » Tue Nov 11, 2008 6:13 am

Gooooood Morning!!!

Yep it's Tuesday. Allllll day it's Tuesday. Never quite figured out what Tuesday is for except as a filler between Monday & Wednesday. Ya know? Monday is starter day (groan) and Wednesday is hump day. Thursday is some peoples last day of the work week or anticipation day for Friday. And of course Friday is ending day for a normal work week. If there is such a thing as normal. Now Saturday and Sunday are usually the best days. Cause they're play days. So what the heck is Tuesday except a filler???? :?

Got up at around 3am for a potty run, was sitting there when all of a sudden the nitelight went out. I thought the power had gone out again. Didn't worry about it cause my alarm runs on 9v battery, so just went back to bed. The only down side of the power going out is that it messes up my coffee pot and it doesn't turn on to brew when it's suppose to. I just know ya'll can imagine my surprise, delight and complete happiness when I got to the kitchen at 5:30 to find that my coffee brew and waiting. :D I just love settable timers on coffee pots. LOLOL

Not much else going on for now. Stress is still wicked at work. They are moving people around in and out of other depts. Making many, many happy employees! HA Nobody should be so lucky! ;)

Ok, gonna go off and check my email and comics, get my fix.

Hope ya'll have a great filler day. Stay safe.

Love to all

Hiya Echo my early morning pal! Maybe that little nightlight just needs a new bulb? I'm glad your brew was ready this a.m. because then you could open your eyes and get our coffee on here in Barbzeee's kitchen!

Not working today,... but will head north to Plattsburgh to Sam's Club, Kmart and Hannaford ... (yep that's where those good muffins are!.... stay tuned!) Friend Kathy will pick me up and we'll go out to breakfast. That will be a treat.

So for now I'll say... "good morning" and have a wonderful Veteran's Day. Most of all, we need to remember the reason for this day off,.... our Veterans! A hearty "thank you" to each and every veteran out there.

Good Morning! I guess Tuesdays are just filler days! For me, this one is a day off, and I am very happy about that.

TV this week has been filled with war documentaries, due to this being Veterans' Day, and I have learned so very much from watching as many of them as I could. The World War II one was especially thought-provoking for me, as I was between the ages of about 2 and 5 years old when my first memories of things going on stuck with me. I was remembering when we lived in Cambridge, MA---my mom, me, and my younger brother, as my father was in the navy----I was about 4 when every night we had 'practice blackouts.' A scary, loud siren would blow, if you had blackout curtains in your homes that you could pull down, you had to immediately close those. Otherwise, ALL lights, including cigarettes (my mom was a smoker) had to be turned out or extinguished. Our living room had the heavy blackout curtains in case we had a fire going in the fireplace, but the other rooms had no such curtains. We would all look out of the windows, and you had to be absolutely silent, also, in case 'soldiers' were walking along the streets, or something.....so whispering was in order. The whole neighborhood became black and deathly silent. My mother always looked at the sky, too, and now I know why.....she was hoping to NOT see planes flying up there looking for a target. She didn't tell us about that. Very scary times, actually. We had to remain silent and black until the all-clear sirens blew.

And then there was the oleo-butter that came in white chunks, looking like lard, with little yellow coloring packets that you had to mix with it to give it color. My mother said we had to use that because all the real butter was going to the guys fighting in the war. At school, we all made little 'packets' of stuff to send to the soldiers on the lines, via the Red Cross....toothpaste and brushes, bandaids, pencils, paper, combs, little doo-dads we thought a guy would like to open up.

War has been in my life since the beginning....I sure do wish war would run its course and be a thing of the past before my life is over.

Anyway....I am remembering all the veterans today, and the horrors they went through, and are still going through.

So I guess this particular Tuesday is a special one, not just a filler. :) Thanks to all you living veterans who fought for us, and to all your friends who fought and died for us.

Fire fixing time...about 27 out there today---not too cold for November.

good morning good morning
my muscles are a tad sore today, actually, they were a tad sore yesterday but today
is worse. Too much hard labor moving the sofa out and taking a funny step off the
stair didn't help either. I should be good as new with a little arthritis medicine for
breakfast. :P Then I can pull my sewing table in and get my corner set up.
I'll watch the parade and honor our vets of course and then later today I gotta run
to walmart and the grocery store.
Ok, off to check the rest of the forum and so forth.

Good Morning, all.....And thank you all for honoring us that have served or are serving our country.....Your support means alot....

Some rain is due in today, so probably will spend time in the outside shelter or in the 5er.....not a fan of fishing in the rain and wind....

I'm sitting here with the door open taking in that great sea air.....it's my favorite time of day....someone asked why I am up so early, since we are retired....as Ernie says "Cause I can take a nap later." ;) Glad everyone enjoyed the sunrise photos....the sunsets are just wonderful, too...

Oh, for those who were at the TX GTG and let me brag and show photos of the kids & Grandkids,....We got to do the IM webcam Sunday night....what fun!! Ava and Tye spent an hour making faces at Grammy and Papa.....we've got a date to do this every Sunday.....

All righty, then....seems I'm just rambling on here so I stop for now...

Have a great day, all....

Morning Everyone...I don't have anything to bring to the table right now, but if you'll wait about an hour and a half I'll have fresh cinnamon rolls, the bread machine will have the dough ready in about 10 minutes. I'm on my last day of a four day weekend and I really haven't gotten diddley accomplished. Too much running around. Yesterday I went to Sioux Falls again..three times in less than a month, that's a record for me since I am a non-shopper. But Missy needed some more things for the Christmas season at the greenhouse and I wanted to get the Christmas tree I liked at the floral wholesaler and it was the first place we were going to stop but she was gabbing and missed the exit so we decided to hit Sam's Club first. I found a tree there I liked better for $25 less! ;) Left Sam's with a Christmas tree and three pair of wool socks and that's all I bought the entire day! Was looking for sweaters and tops and couldn't find anything that I really liked. We arrived home in the nick of time last night because it started raining and freezing. Most of the schools that are in session today are starting an hour or two late and it is snowing now. Good incentive for me to stay home and finally do something. But had to check in here first as I do every morning at work but can't post!

Many thanks to our veterans and their families.
My mind works like lightning...one brilliant flash and it's gone.

Morning Ladies. Its rainy here this morning but warm and humid. You gotta love Texas weather. Jill and Tommy are leaving this morning so its really the complete end of the GTG and I'm bummed out. Really miss the girls (and guys). Guess I'll do laundry today and made a Walmart run. Thinking about all the veterans today and their sacrifices for their country. God Bless all of them. I'm planning on a trip to Port Lavaca in March so will probably go to Pt Aransas (Beth), Corpus Christie (Lori and Ernie) and then Brownsville (Jill and Tommy). Anyone want to try for another GTG somewhere down there? Maybe a group trip into Mexico? I haven't had so much fun, laughed so hard or been so silly for years and years. Well, off to walk the dogs.

Nasoosie, your post brought back memories because I lived through that war too, in Britain, where the black out was for real. I didn't taste butter until I was 14 and thought it the most foul stuff I had ever put in my mouth. I was in my 20s before I aquired a taste for it. I remember one of my aunts holding me up to the window to see the fireworks before she realised to her horror that what she was showing a child was flak from anti-aircraft guns. I also remember doodlebugs and the silence that fell while people listened to see if the little engine was still running. When it stopped the bomb fell. I still, to this day, get a tightness when I see searchlights. I couldn't figure out why until I had a flashback of the lights searching the skies for enemy aircraft. I didn't see my father from when I was 2 until I was 7 and never developed a close relationship with him. All I ever remember is him saying, "GO TO YOUR ROOM." He visited me in America when I was 55 and he didn't like something I said and ordered me to go to my room, lol. I gently told him that the whole house was mine and he couldn't order me around anymore. Needless to say the visit didn't go well.
Anyway, rationing was so severe in Scotland that my mother and I got ONE egg, between us, every two weeks. Remember the MASH episode when they got real eggs and were all deciding how they wanted them cooked and the guy who dressed as a woman scrambled them. Well my mother spent days deciding between hard boiled, soft boiled, poached, fried. She finally decided, cracked open the egg and it was rotten. Two more weeks to wait!

Sparkle...your World War II memories are way scarier than mine! Wow. It's amazing how something so traumatic stays with us for a lifetime, isn't it? I can't even begin to imagine how those survivors of combat EVER get over nightmares and flashbacks of the horrors that they lived.

Sorry about your father not being close to you. Though my father was in the navy for a while, he seemed so devoted and kind and wonderful when he got back....sort of as if he had never left. My mother had a life-sized, standup, heavy cardboard cutout of him in a suit with a huge microphone in his hands which stood on the stair landing at Cambridge. I kissed him goodnight each night. He was a radio announcer with a show of his own in Hartford, CT, before he left for the war.

I guess my brother didn't remember him at all, as, when he was being baptized, he asked the minister, "Are you my daddy?" It brought the house/church down!

Sigh...a day for memories, both happy and sad, I am thinking.
