BOOK IT, DANO!

My heart is pounding and I'm wondering what we just did and are we sane! Booked a trip to Asia in December we're taking a 15 day tour thru Vietnam and Cambodia and possibly, before that, 10 days in Thailand visiting with my cousin who's an expat for at least 20 years. I'm really excited and nervous at the same time. Talk about a quick decision. Need to get visas, shots and whatever else they say we need by the beginning of December, as well as our own tickets roundtrip and within the cities we'll be visiting. Thank goodness tGM is talented in that area. We'll be heading back to FL the beginning of Oct. and might stop in DC for the visas-not sure yet. Have to learn how to say "I'm allergic to shrimp" in 3 very foreign languages. Maybe a picture of one with a big X thru it will do Just poured myself some vino to calm down, look at pics and, since I'm a woman, figure out what clothes to take carold

Congratulation Carol!!! I have a friend who just returned from 9 months teaching in Vietnam and she loved it! She did say it was quite warm even in January. Also my 90+ year old neighbor went a couple of years ago, it was her second trip. Re your learning to say your allergic in those languages there is an app for that I haven't seen it but I think you talk to it in English and it translates to the language you pick. Start shopping now for all those new clothes!!!

how fun that would be...such different countries! so go enjoy and take oodles of pictures....kinda like the picture idea or a tattoo just kidding although they for sure would have one...or a bracelet or necklace remember the medical necklaces? Part of the fun of a trip like that think would be the planning and preparing

Wow, you will love it. I lived there for just over a year and I miss it everyday. Bangkok has a lot to offer but try to see some of the less touristy places too. Ride the sky train to get around easily, it's much faster than the taxi. In fact, traffic in Bangkok is so bad that walking is often faster than a taxi. Definitely take a ride in a tuk tuk and if you get into a smaller town ride on the motorcycle taxis at least once to say you've done it. In Phnom Phen don't miss the killing fields exhibits but be prepared to be horrified by what one human can do to another. Angor Wat and the Plain of Jars (if it's open again) is awe inspiring. Ride the dragon boats as often as you can just because you can't ride then anywhere else in the world. Drink lots of Sing Ha (elephant beer) and remember to smile a lot. Thai people are so friendly. A smile and a wah got me into some pretty fabulous places. I know you'll have a blast and visiting in their winter means no rains and no tropical heat either. Good planning,

Now that I have a suitcase/s I did figure that I need to plan additional adventures of my own to make sure that I make use of then...... I always remind myself that if those "young'ins" can do it then know it is doable.... Now I will remind myself that Carold and tGM went out to explore a new world so I will know that it really is possible. For all of us it requires a leaf of faith and then one step of discovery at a time.

Yep, tGM is definitely an asset in this area as well as the fact that my cousin lives in Thailand and is helping us plan that part of the journey. Appreciate any info from you gals. Not looking forward to the 28 or more hours that it takes to get there but you gotta do, what you gotta do. Anybody have credit for a business class upgrade We have to get visas as well as taking the vaccinations and getting travel insurance. It's sure a lot easier and cheaper traveling in the MH This will be one of the only Christmases we haven't spent with the GKs. Haven't told them yet. carold
