Where's Liz? Following Robert Frost

Postby Liz » Fri Sep 02, 2011 1:44 pm

Nan and I visited two homes of poet Robert Frost while traveling through New Hampshire. Decided to put them together in one post.

Nice photos of someplace I might visit someday.

During 1921-27, Frost was Poet-in-Residence and a teaching fellow at the University of Michigan, where I atteded as an undergraduate. He wrote a lot of poetry there, and his Ann Arbor home is now at Greenfield Village, Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn, Michigan. "Tree at my window, window tree..."

I have fond memories of hearing him speak on campus just before he died.

Thanks for the photos.

Thanks Liz, The Road Not Taken is one of my favorite poems, one I memorized in high school.

When I attended Catholic grammar school, memorizing poetry was an important part of the curriculum. Stopping By Woods was a poem that we studied and discussed. Who drove the buggy? What was his/her profession? Where were they going? Etc. Frost is my favorite poet. I also quoted from The Road Less Traveled to honor a longtime friend at a tribute dinner who, throughout his life, set new standards in whatever he chose to pursue because he took the road less traveled and it did indeed make all the difference. Thanks for the tribute to Frost in your journey.

Truly enjoyed that, Liz. RF is my favorite, too. I can see how his surroundings could help conjure up images to write about. Beautiful area.
