waste valve problem

Birdie, I've almost bought that a couple times now - but hate having one and buying another. Think I'll replace the flush king tho - as that 90 degree angle will work for me everywhere. And sitting here all summer, I really do need to clean it out. I'm planning to use ice when I leave here in the fall. You're so right, lots of little tricks. The ice has worked for me like a charm every time.

ACK!!!! Black tanks make me feel ---------'sad'--------(like that new TV commercial about Fiber)!! The thought of having poop anywhere underneath me in my trailer is why I still use a carryable porta potty in my bathroom, which I can carry to either a bathroom toilet or a free-standing porta potty to dump very easily. Then I can rinse the whole thing out and begin over. The tank is the size of a briefcase, or a large shower caddy, so nobody knows what I am carrying through the campground! I suppose if I were to stay in one place for several months and had a sewer connection included in the site, I would let the black tank fill up and then dump it regularly. BUT----the first time I tried dumping after a camping trip that had just a dump station on the way out, my connection came undone, poop and all flowed freely all over me and the ground, and I promptly threw up on top of it all! It was a most inglorious and totally embarrassing camping experience! I never wish to experience that milestone again! If a grey tank connection breaks away, no prob! Black tanks are not me! I have dealt with pee buckets in tents and my leanto for years, and find them, and now porta potties, vastly easier to deal with than an inboard sewer. Sewage in quantities in living quarters, or below living quarters, are oxymoronic to me.

I had a waste valve go bad and start leaking on an old RV. I had a local RV dealer repair it, and kicked myself for giving them the money - it was simple.

All that they had to do was dump the tank (which they made me do, then complained I hadn't got it all), undo the 4 bolts on the square part, and bolt the new one on. Could have bought the part ($15) and not been charged $200 to do up 4 bolts.

The only trick was that you have to use stainless steel bolts and nuts or the ucky-poo will rust them.

Now that we're back on this delicate subject again I was wondering where you dump your tanks when you are urban boondocking.

Some cities have a dump station at their public works dept. I have used those in Manchester, NH, and Montpelier, VT.
