Just want to gab and collect info

Postby pattiburchell » Wed Aug 17, 2011 1:27 pm

Hi, I am not a rver right now, tho my hubby and I were full timers for 8 years, and then he felt the need to settle down. Well so do I, but with his health not so good, I am thinking of the future and possibly doing it again. I am 68 yrs. young, and trying to decide what type of rig I might get. I don't want something bigger than 28 ft and perferably a class C I think. Tho I have thought of a small 5th wheel....sooooo many ideas to think about. So any ideas of what you have, or how you decided would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome! You'll find as many ideas for rigs as we have people. And if you check other posts, you can read all about them. Me, I will probably always stay with a smaller Class C. It's my rv of choice. Smaller because I like to go to out-of-the-way places and parks that might not have room for the bigger rigs.

Feel free to join in everywhere.

Hi and welcome, Patti!
Beth is right. Each of us have different needs and comfort levels so our rigs reflect that.
Good luck in your search.

Welcome to the forum...I think you will find as I have that you can get information and opinions on just about anything especially RV's. Each of us come from a different lifestyle, some are very chatty, some are not so chatty but post great photos of their traveling experiences. No doubt after being an RV'er for 8 years you have a wealth of knowledge on the subject. Sorry your hubby's health is not good. I know he will come first as long as he lives but personally I think you're wise to plan for being alone. If he isn't requiring your help on a daily basis, I would select that RV and take a few short trips, maybe try to go to a GTG so you can meet some of us. Best of luck with your search, you will hear lots of stories and opinions. I personally don't like pulling something so I travel in a class c tho some would call it a b. It's 24' and will maneuver well in any kind of traffic plus I can park just about anywhere. I like unglugging and I'm on my way.

Hi Patti & welcome! I prefer a class C but that's mainly because I don't have to leave my rig to make a sandwich or use the bathroom if I want to make a pit stop. But what I have may not suit the next person. Go to RV dealers & RV shows and look around & let us know if you've made any decisions.

That was a consideration for me too. Convenient if it is raining or after dark or I just don't want to leave the rig for some reason. Mine is 26'.

Hi everyone, and thank you for making me feel welcome. I don't think I will be traveling soon but I am one that likes to collect info. That is what I did when we decided we wanted to go full time...I did the info collecting and then we looked. I don't think it will be very soon, but my hubby has outlived 3 generations of men in his family, and after having 3 small TIA's in May, you never know. A lot depends to on how much insurance I will get as he can't get life insurance, just accident. But, I know that it will work out the way it is suppose too. I am leaning towards a Class C or B, under 27 ft. But I don't want to tow a vehicle so there is that to think about too, (I know....a seguay!) one of those 2 wheel things! But there is to decide if I want an apt and part time travel or full time...Also Chalet (which makes A-frame campers) has a light weight 27 ft. 5th wheel that looks nice. (Their factory is close to us). I love the Born Free's but they are expensive, and also the Freelanders. So any ideas you can toss my way is great. I am in no hurry. We are also members of Thousand Trails, and life time members of Escapees. I am an active person, and love being with people...probably why I am a professional clown and specialize in face painting. I will get a picture put on as soon as I figure out how to do it on my new laptop computer. It confuses me at times.

There's a couple other Class C's I'm partial to when I look next - if I can find a model I like used at a good price. One is Phoenix Cruisers. Another is the Chinook. Of course, I don't rule anything out if the price is right :)

Beth, I have a Chinook but they aren't made anymore and the latest model will be 05, maybe 06. Some time ago I thought I wanted to sell mine, put it on RV Online and gots tons of interest. They are highend quality and if you can find one I would say they will hold that value well. I have found only one negative with mine. The front seats won't swivel like Roadtrek and Pleasureway, reason is Chinook was made in US

Adding another welcome.
I don't yet have an RV either and have never RVed. Initially thought the only type I'd consider was a Class B but after going to a few shows and seeing several of the rigs owned by the fantastic ladies on this forum, I have added small Class c to my search list. Of course my taste exceeds my budget as I fell in love with a Born Free model I saw in FL last Jan.
We will enjoy and many will help in your search for the perfect RV for you.

Blue pinecones.....I love the Born Free also but they are expensive, but well built. I figure a demo would be what to aim for unless it is a used one. Okay this is what happened to me yesterday. I was dressed as "Terra Bunn" my clown character, ready to go to a pizza place for my face painting job and I stopped off at Bi-Mart (a small wonderful store, better than Walmart I think) and there is this Freelander sitting in the parking lot with the door open. Of course I had to check it out! Can you imagine sitting there with your hubby when a clown appears at your open door? They were from Canada...and were wonderful to share. It was a 2007, 26ft with a slideout. She said it was really easy to drive. I really liked it, so now I know what a Freelander looks like inside and out! They just moved up on my list. They also said tht rvs in California are cheaper. His brother is a rv dealer and buys a lot of them down in Calif. So...onwards with the ideas. Most of my questions will be for traveling alone, like I said we traveled for 8 years. And we worked as Camp Hosts (do they hire single women?) and then 3 summers at our TTN campground where I was activity director and Gail was a ranger. But there is so much to think about if you are alone. Which I hope isn't going to happen soon. His diabetis is really slowing him down, as is the neuropathy in his feet...this house is getting way to much for us to take care of. Luckily our area is starting to grow, with a new Osteopathic College that just opened up 2-1/2 blocks from us, a Oregon VA assisted living home being built across the street from the college, and lots of other things in that area. They only have 107 students right now, but will add at least 100 for the next 3 years. Plus a possibility of more medical colleges going in in the same area. But I had to share about finding the one in the parking lot. My angels seem to to leading me along the path. Have a great day everyone. Oh someone said that it is a good idea to plan ahead. When I was much younger and had 6 kids, my ex had a heart attack and lived, but it taught me to plan for the future as I had no idea what I would do if he hadn't made it. Other women have told me they do the same thing.
