Friday! Friday! Friday!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Friday! Friday! Friday!

Postby Sojourner » Fri Aug 12, 2011 6:37 am

It's 6:30 am here in the Heart of Texas, and it's in the 80's. If this were AZ it would be no big thing, and without a doubt we are hardened to hot weather here, but rarely so hot for so long. We broke a record yesterday for consecutive over 100 degree days, and it continues unabated into next week.
I spend a lot of time whining about the weather lately.
But it does seriously affect my motivation and energy. I continue to be amazed that hardy pioneers settled this place without A/C'd Conestoga wagons. In long-sleeved, long-skirted dresses.
I offer you iced coffee, chilled fruit, and those round fans commonly found at church revivals. If you come, bring rain!

Good morning Megan and others to follow today !!! I got a chuckle out of your post, Megan, hopefully someone will go and take rain !! I know Texas really needs some.
Looks overcast outside here, but weathermen, I don't think have predicted any until tomorrow. I don't pay much attention to them.

The big new dog across the road and I, are both objecting highly to his owners taking a few days vacation. He is very verbal about it AT NIGHT, I'm getting very verbal about it under my breathe. :o

The heat index dictates around here, when , what and how much work gets done each day. Early morning or very late evening are chore times here. Although I did mow the other day in middle of day, nice breeze and moving on the mower wasn't bad. Getting a tan this year, have missed my Fl. tan. Weathermen I think said we were going to have rain that evening, I am still waiting for it, glad I cut it an inch higher then I usually do.

I haven't been on the forum, sorry, I don't know how anyone is, but I hope those that have health issues that they pass quickly and those on the road, stay safe, and the rest of us, better hug our A/C's for awhile longer.

Stay cool, but enjoy your day, add some fun to it somehow,
CArol :)

Good morning Megan, Carol & everyone!

Megan & Carol, I hope the temperatures break for both of you and hope Texas gets some much needed rain.

It was chilly this morning when I got up with temperatures in the low 60's and we're only going to get into the mid 80's today. We'll have lots of sunshine today and tomorrow and will have rain moving into the area Saturday night into Sunday. The full moon this morning was so pretty and I'm looking forward to enjoying its beauty again tonight.

I plan on reserving some more steamed crabs for tomorrow. The prices are more reasonable this year than they have been in years past which for me, makes them more enjoyable.

Have a good day everyone!

Good morning Megan, Carol, Irmi and all that are still sleeping...
I do hope you get rain in Texas it has been a long dry spell for much of the country along with the heat and very high heat index... Our hot spell has broken it was 58° at 6 AM will get into the 80s later today... What a wonderful break for us...
Today my daughter Margie and I will go look at a senior apartment... This is just the beginning of downsizing... If I find the right place I will put my name on the waiting list, but I know it will take at least a year before I could move...
Oh, Carol a barking dog is so bad let's hope they come home soon and take care of him... I wonder who is giving him water and food, when animals are barking and carrying on and they usually dump their water...
Megan that cold fruit sounds very good but I'll take a hot cup of coffee to...
Have a great day everyone and stay cool,
Kathleen

GOOD MORNING TO ALL!

The relentless heat many parts of the country are experiencing seems to be totally sapping everyone's strength and movitvation. I feel really bad for those of you having to stay inside next to your fans and ACs. It's 59 degrees here this morning, with a bright blue sky containing puffy, white clouds and a gentle breeze is blowing. Today is my friend Richard's birthday, so I will put up my birthday banner and serve him a piece of warmed blueberry cobbler and whipped cream with a candle for his breakfast...or maybe his supper, as I plan to get a pizza for his birthday supper.

We went over the mountain despite the on-and-off rain showers last evening, and listened to another free music concert at the town beach. The band was very loud, but still enjoyable between showers. The nearly full moon over the water was really pretty when it emerged.

Mandy, my daughter, will return today, and I will be happy to see her again. With this month half over, she is that much closer to the birth of her first child on October 1st. This grandma cannot wait!

I found another treasure trove of unpicked blueberries yesterday, and picked an entire bucketfull. Molly and I will pick again today to make sure I have a bunch for the GTG in another week!

I hope you all will be able to get out and about soon and that the heat will break for the upcoming fall season. Happy Friday to all.

P.S.---as I was posting this, Kath's posted first----a barking God sounds really ominous!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Kathleen, no reason to be against senior apartments. When my mom moved to one, they were new enough that people considered them nothing more than new branches of nursing homes. NOT the case. I wish they had been around sooner, as she thrived there and if I had been old enough, would have taken an apt for myself :) Her cost included 2 meals and they always had activities going on. Or she could just go down to the lobby area and always there were others there to talk to or get something going with. And when she wanted no one, she didn't have to join in. Look, look, look and when you find one you like, grab it. Good luck to you.

Beautiful here again today. We've walked, and walked some more. I'm doing some work around the rv, then will work 3:30 - 10. I've boiled eggs to make some egg salad to make sandwiches for work and will have a nice little tomato/onion/cucumber salad for lunch in a minute. Yum.

Well I drove back down to San Diego last night to secure the room in the condo with a deposit. Met the mom this time and she is very nice. Both mom and daughter are quite religious but seem open minded and respectful of my spiritual beliefs. The bedroom is pretty small (I measured it) but it should work OK. I am thinking of going down one day before I move in and painting the room. It is a flat dull white color now and she said I could paint it if I wanted. So maybe a yellow/beige color to warm it up a little. Nothing too dark or it will make the room seem even smaller!

Discovered this morning that my cat has worms. Tapeworms, I think. I have been wondering what the little white stuff around her butt was (looked like toilet paper dust) but saw one piece moving this morning! ACK!! Gotta go get some deworming meds for her today!

Speaking of barking dogs...there is a house on the next street over that has abouut 5 dogs who bark constantly! I've gotten kind of used to it but it will be nice to be in a quieter place when I move!

Gotta do some laundry and call my dad before I head off to work later today. It is a little cooler here now, mid 80's and 50's at night, so very nice! It was actually a little chilly last night down at the new place. Hope those of you in the heat wave can stay cool until it finally breaks!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

My son wanted me to make meatball stew so got that going early. About 11 my friend called and wanted me to go eat with her and her office crew. Can't turn down a trip so we went to Chilie's. I was good for a change and ate a salad. I love their Caribbean Salad with grilled chicken. I went to Walmart and tried to get everything I could remember so I don't have to go to town this weekend. The schools are starting and the other day when I went to Lafayette the traffic was terrible. I'm sure it will be crazy tomorrow.

We aren't close enough to our neighbors to hear their dogs but a new half grown puppy they got was picking up things in the yard. He doesn't bother the cats so it wasn't bothering me until he picked up one of Harold's rubber boots and chewed it up. He shouldn't leave his shoes on the porch anyway. He had a fit and I see that they put up one of the electric fences that you bury around their yard. I like the idea of having dogs around outside but our dog stays in a kennel. When Harold was training horses we had several red and blue heelers that were loose all the time. When people would drive up you could see that they gave some thought to whether they were getting out of their vehicle or not. I'm just glad we aren't closer to the neighbors across the pasture. They have a pen of Beagles. I don't know how they stand it. Most of the time I can hear them barking if we are outside.
