Hump Day!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Hump Day!

Good morining RVing Sisters,

Well, half-way until the end of my work week. Yeah! :D

I have been up since 4:15 am. A sleepless night. :( That makes three nights in a row. On my 2nd cup of coffee. Gotta get that energy flowing...it is going to be a long day. :D

I have been planning my trip to the Arkasas GTG (maybe that is what keeping me my up at night :D). I am excited about being able to make it this year. I will be attending a Texas Ramblin Roses (chapter of RVing Women) Rally the last weekend in September, then will head up to the Arkansas GTG from there.

Everyone have a great day and safe travels.

Good morning Carolyn and all who follow! Carolyn, I'm so glad you will be at the AR gtg. I've been looking forward to meeting you.

Today Nan and I are planning to tour "the battle road," where the American Revolution began with the battles of Concord and Lexington, Paul Revere's Ride, the Minutemen, the "shot heard 'round the world", etc. We are making our way back to my brother's in NH where I have a cousin reunion to attend on Saturday. Nan will become our new "Southern" cousin, .

It's looks like it's going to be a beautiful day with a high around 80 degrees.

Hope everyone plans some fun today.

Ah Liz wish I was with you, we started the day at 82 degrees! I did drive my RV last night, picked up friends and headed to the Dairy Queen in a nearby town. Since I had the rear air bags inflated to the right amount it drives and rides great. I found really cool vintage melmac dishes in a square design on ebay for my van but thinking in reality I'll use paper plates etc. but couldn't resist. I'll have to learn to turn the water heater on before I dirty any dishes! I still haven't decided on a name for her, Little Jewel, Escape Mobile, Dream Machine comes to mind but none seem to click so far.

A late start this morning. The cat woke me up about 1:00 and we had words. Couldn't fall back asleep until almost 5:00. Woke up to Bobby saying he'd made me breakfast. A bagel with peanut butter and orange juice. This is the kid of service I can live with. Now, if I could only teach him how to use the espresso machine...

Very jealous of those of you planning trips. Post pics so I can pretend I was there. :D

Hope you all have a great start to the other half of the week.

Yea, I made my reservations for the Arkansas GTG. The woman I was talking to at the park first told me that I could only get Oct 3-6. I kept asking her questions and finally found out she was looking at cabins instead of rv sites. She told me that they honor the senior pass so we will see. Some states do and some only do for residents. I am going to the Ramblin Roses rally and then go on to Arkansas with Carolyn.

I haven't been sleeping well either. Monday night I woke up at 3 and didn't go back to sleep until 6. I have had a headache for 3 days. I'm afraid it might be from the cheese I like so much.

Readytotry, when I was working the women in the office and I would take my motorhome and go to Baton Rouge or New Orleans for the weekend to shop and hang out. We would stay at a hotel because there would be 5 or 6 of us but it's a great way to travel. If I'm going to a festival or something like that I like to take my motorhome. You have your own bathroom and a place to take a break.

Good morning all!

Seems like this is the sleepless bunch. Well, I sleep just fine but I don't sleep very long. In my summer mode I tend to stay up late (for me that's 11:30ish) but Jed hasn't gotten the memo & still gets me up at 6:00. So up I get to take care of him and then I stretch out on my recliner for another hour or so. He's happy and I enjoy the quiet of being downstairs.

It's been hot here -- pushing 100*. And it's been a bit humid, too. But our humidity is going down which makes the heat more bearable. I just can't imagine what it's like in those areas where the humidity and heat have been so high for so long, so my heart goes out to you all.

It's going to be a quiet day around here. I have a friend coming over to borrow some of my outdoor stuff for a gathering she's having over the weekend. Then I'm going to run to Home Depot to pick up some river rock for my new pondless water feature. The guy will be here on Sunday to dig the hole & prepare everything for me so I want to be ready with all the supplies I'll need. I'll try & remember to take pictures of the process.

Other than that I'll be working on the finishing work for my cross-stitch. I have to say that I've thoroughly enjoyed stitching this summer. It'll be hard to put it aside when school starts. Hopefully I can find a happy medium and keep stitching in the midst of the stress & craziness of school. We start back without kids on the 29th & the kids begin on Sept. 1. I'll have to go in the week before to get my room set up. Can't believe this will be my 24th year of doing this ...

Hope you all have a great day, and for those of you in the heat please be careful.

Martha, the AR State Parks do honor the cards, I know it's 50% off for the disabled and I think 25% off for seniors.

What kind of senior pass and where do you get one?! Are they good in all states or is it a state by state deal?

GOOD AFTERNOON TO ALL!

I have been busy trying to clear up the nasty yellow/orange color of my once-crystal-clear pool water. I put a chlorine/algicide tablet in a floater in there a night ago, and, when I awoke yesterday morning, it had changed to puke orange! I know I have a lot of iron in this well water, so I am assuming the chlorine/algicide tablet had something in it that made the iron show itself? ACK! I have shocked it twice, to no avail now. I don't know what to do next. If I have to drain it all, I am through with pools at this house. If there are any chemists out there, I would really appreciate some helpful hints.

Richard is here, and he looks very good, as do his little pooches. I am tired now, after doing laundry, paying bills, working on pool, and picking blueberries. We stayed up later than my usual time last night, and, though I never do it, I can feel napping coming on!

I hope you all are having a super Wednesday. I am very discouraged about my pool!

Soos, if there is a pool place nearby, take them a water sample. there are things to remove metals from the water. Also, you said it took a few days toget enough water in to operate the pump and filter. You really need to get the water circulating, is there any way to fill it faster? Im about to go hit my pool myself, you would call it bathtub water! Wendy

The America The Beautiful senior pass is the best thing going. It will probably pay for itself the first time you use it. Thanks for the link Vickie. I thought you had to get it in person but guess that has changed. I think you can get in any national park free and camp for half price. It is a state by state deal if they will honor it. Louisiana will let me in state parks free and camp for half price. I don't know if you have to be a resident of Louisiana. I think I read somewhere that you have to be a Florida resident to use it in Florida. I think I remember that an Alabama state park gave me 25% off.

Soos, it has been a long time since we have had a pool but I would take a sample of water to a pool place and they would tell me what I needed to put in. We had well water too and it was a constant fight to keep it clear. My friends have a salt water pool. I don't know if that is cheaper to keep up. As much trouble as you have to fill it I wouldn't dump it. Just find out what you need to add and run the filter.

The orange stuff is no doubt a rust compound. If you have a filter, it should eventually filter out. It may also settle down at the bottom overnight if the water is still. Then you could vacuum it up.

I don't think it would hurt anyone--just looks funny.

HOW DO YOU REMOVE IRON FROM POOL WATER? – The pH must be between 7.2 and 7.6. Turn filter off, use alum powder at a rate of 1 pound per 3,000 gallons of water. Weigh amount of alum needed and place in porous bag and drag through the water until it dissolves. Let pool stand 24-36 hours. Set filter for vacuum to waste and attach vacuum and clean pool bottom. When ready to use pool, check pH because alum in water may lower pH below 7.2 which means soda ash should be added to the water.

Please be sure to wear a mask when adding any kind of filter powder. I got pneumonia from this and it wasn't fun getting over. It's been many years since I've dealt with a pool but we're in the aquarium business and Mel adds diatonatious (spelling?) earth and recommends it to our customers with home aquariums. It will clear the water where nothing else will. It doesn't harm fish so that should tell you how harmless it is. More info might be found in the internet.
Touching on what BJ and Martha said about loading up friends and going for short rides in their motor homes..our newcomers might consider this while deciding on what kind of rig to get. As a matter of fact I will be using mine tomorrow night just to go to Little Rock for minor surgery. I will be able to drive afterwards so since my appt is at 7, I will park in the RV designated area, spend the night, then rest afterwards if I feel I should. I live close to the lake so I have on occasion taken a grandchild for an overnight, swimming then cooking out, roasting marshmallows, and lastly putting bedclothes on and watch a movie.
