Indian Lake State Park

Postby Colliemom » Fri Jul 29, 2011 8:06 pm

The "girls" and I just returned from another camping trip, this time to Indian Lake State Park near Manistique in the U.P. of MI.
It's a beautiful park. The first time I have been there and it won't be the last. I reserved a pull through site for this trip as it was open and I was not familiar with the other sites in the park. Turned out to be a great choice. We were camped under cedar trees and was nice and shady with a good view of the lake across the road.

This is Indian Lake, the second largest lake in Michigan's U.P. 5 miles long and 4 miles wide. Average depth is 15 feet

The view out my front window the next morning after we arrived.

Some shots of the campground. It varies from wooded to sunny sites. There are some sites directly on the lake and some like mine, across the road and more back into the woods. All laid out very nicely.

The park has a nice hardtopped trail through the cedars along the lake shore from the camapground to it's day use area and along this trail are spots like this where you can sit and picnic or just enjoy the peace and quiet. And believe me, it's quiet.

There is a small beach area along with a log beach house. This lake has a LOT of ducks and a sign was posted warning about Swimmers Itch here.

The day use area is small but very nice. And this building is the shelter. Quite a beautiful structure with all the big wood beams and the fireplace inside

We had a couple of passing thunderstorms the afternoon I was there and as you can see, a bit of rain along with them. Actually, we just caught the edge of them here. At one point there was actually a duck swimming in that puddle in front of my trailer, but of course I didn't haven't have the camera handy.

And last but not least, mom nature gave me another beautiful sunset to admire.

Hope you enjoyed the tour of this park. I'm hoping to go back here before the season is over. It's about 166 miles from me here, so it's a bit of a drive but well worth it.

Nice park. So glad to hear that you are getting out there and enjoying your RV this summer. Lots easier to be positive about life when you can get out and RV.

Another beautiful park, Sue! You sure do have some gorgeous camping spots not too far from you. thanks for the pics!

As for those interested in Swimmer's Itch, here's a link among hundreds to learn about it. I have had the joy of experiencing it several times in my life living up here where many swimming holes are also water-fowl areas, along with the snails that are an integral part of the life cycle of the little burrowers!

My most favorite campsite near me, Silver Lake, is experiencing an infestation of these critters this year. I never found them there before. So I will wait awhile to go there for my swimming, I guess! (Another reason why I decided to set up my own little pool here in my yard!)

So glad you have those neat parks to go to on free weekends...Most likely it gives you more determination to keep your 'get away rig' and I might add a beautiful truck (love red) pulling it. Love the pics. Without researching how close are you to Door County in WI? We are reduced to crispy critters :o here in AR and I keep remembering the nice coolness of Door County.
