July at Aloha State Park

Postby Colliemom » Thu Jul 28, 2011 7:37 pm

I took a two nighter at Aloha State Park again, the weekend after the 4th of July. Got myself a site on the Boat Basin again. Had this site last year and I really enjoy it. The Boat Basin is a canal coming in off Mullett Lake where the campers can park their boats out of the open lake and have shelter from rough water. The boats that are in this basin belong to campers who may or may not have sites by their boat. In my case, the pontoon that was parked in front of my site belonged to some campers who were up in the middle campground a couple of roads over and they just walked over to their boat from there.

As you can see in these two pics, I can't get much closer to the water unless I want to put pontoons on my trailer and make a houseboat out of it

Took this picture while I was sitting at my picnic table having breakfast the next morning. Very peaceful out here early in the morning.

But eventually the action started. Here these folks are heading out for a day of play on the lake, soon to be followed by others.

The lake is as much a fishing lake as it is a play lake. A lot of folks are trying for walleye. Here some fishermen are returning from a mornings fishing trip and these boys are trying their luck from the dock. I never did see them catch anything. But with all the comings and going in the basin, there was always something to watch.

The "girls" found it pretty neat laying under the TT on the cool grass and enjoying the breeze

And of course, mom nature never fails to entertain me with some special sunsets when I am camped here. No two are ever alike.

Mullett Lake, the which of this Boat Basin runs into, is the third largest lake in Michigan. 10 miles long and about 4 miles wide at it's largest point. It's deepest point being about 120 feet. It's part of the 38 mile Inland Waterway, a series of rivers and lakes which stretch from Lake Huron across the state to almost the Lake Michigan shore. So it's a boaters paradise out there. Many people take the waterway cruise, some on overnights, others just for a long day on the water. You can also boat out into the Straits of Mackinac from here and go anywhere you want, even to the Atlantic Ocean via the lakes, St. Lawrence Seaway etc.
If you love boating and love to play or cruise, this is a good place to be.

Another beautiful campsite!! That's a huge lake. I would love a pontoon boat on a lake like that, with a cabin to camp in! I think I might even trade my trailer for such a treat for a few years! Trouble is, I would have to still haul it south if I were to live/camp in it in the winter months!

Thanks for more great pics! The puppies found the same spot to hang out that Molly uses!
