Well, I made a different journey home to Schertz than over to Houston. The distance was shorter and the traffic not quite as bad. Filled up with gas in Spring at the Valero on fm 2920 and Rhodes Rd and then again when I got to New Braunfels.
That was a short, but fun meeting of RVing women. It was indeed, a pleasure to meet up with Paulette. Was great to see Martha and Joella again. I was sorry that Vickie (she is a Flocking Flamingo RVer that I met in Schertz last November) wasn't able to come play with us. Martha makes such a lovely camping neighbor. You know she has been camping absolutely forever. She should be giving seminars on the do's and don'ts for us 'kids'. What a pro!!!
Let me tell you about the food! As you could see from the B-B-Q Pit plates there was lots of food. That was a rack of ribs that I ordered. The rack was designated as a 3 meal plate. It actually has been that and then some. Well, we added some of Paulette's LO's (left overs) too with those ribs for a throw together last night. Then I had two for lunch today and I still have one rib left. I love good ribs and those were so nice and meaty. Just a small amount of smoke, not overly smoky, and you add your own sauce. When I had mine at home I added some Gold's hot sauce, oh with the Jalapeno slices too that was rather fab!!! So passing thru Houston on I-45 near Spring get off on Rayford Crossing and go east about a mile....just before the RR tracks on the right side of the road. It was great. Ask Martha and Paulette about the Peach Cobbler. If they tell you I had Blackberry Cobbler "they lie like a dog on a rug". (I told them I say that!)
Old Town Spring, was a very interesting town. Many stores were closed as we found that the busy days are the weekends. Museum didn't open until Thursday and ran until Sunday so we missed that. Lots of neat little stores with some great items. We found some 'solar jar lids'. But there was no one to take our money. Quite a unique item. This is one of those spots that if you live in a house and like quaint, cutsie things, you would leave some money there. Now I'll tell you about eating at Wunsche Bros. in Spring. Those sauerkraut balls were very unusal, the zuchinni was marvelous, so fresh and tender tasting and the onion rings were very good (says she that doesn't eat fried onion rings). Having said that, girls I ordered the vegetable plate, blackeyed peas, corn and garden salad. Fire on my feet could not make me tell you what THEY ordered.
Loved the Spring Oaks campground. Not fancy, but had lots of really tall pine trees and was surrounded with hardwood trees and a water pit...empty now. Houston metroplex is very flat and shallow ground water level. So they have these big depressions that catch runoff from areas to keep them from 'flooding'. They are 'water catchment ponds or tanks' and I call them water pits.
I hope, Paulette, you can stand the heat and humidity until you get the replacemnt a/c. What a nice welcome to Texas she has had. Let us know when you are coming back Paulette and we will do this again. We will need to reserve our spot at the Spring Oaks campground early because they were full Tuesday night and only one opening Wednesday night.
Great womenRVers, great food, great time. Repeat many times. Thanks Paulette, Martha, Joella for being there and Vickie for the eating places recommendations.
