Bad week for my family

Postby BarbaraRose » Wed Jun 22, 2011 8:19 pm

Today is the 4 year anniversary of my mom's death. One year ago this week, my cousin Linda passed away from cancer after a 2 year battle. 43 years ago this week, my cousin Mia (her sister) died in a car crash at the age of 17. I just got a phone call now from a relative back home telling me that my other cousin Kathleen (the third sister) died last night of breast cancer. And with that close call on the freeway today with the rollover accident right in front of me, really makes me think...

I am sure there is a party going on in Heaven right now, tho. Kathleen was a real party animal, especially when she was with Linda! My mom was very close to both of them so I am sure she is with them having a great time too! I was told that Kathleen knew she had breast cancer over a year ago but chose not to do anything about it, after watching her sister go thru all the grueling chemo for two years. I didn't even know she had it, so this is a real shock to me.

Oh my, Barbie----what a series of memorable, but not happy, events. I am just so glad you weren't any closer to that speeding car today. Please get some cookies, take a long hot bath, get into bed, and stay safe for the rest of this fateful day. I am so sorry to hear about your Cousin. Please take good care to get your annual mammograms, too, to keep yourself safe and catch any wayward cells before they have a chance to get strong.

Cuddle up with Lola tonight.....Molly and I will be thinking of you.

Happy travels!

Sorry for your loss. I know that these moments are harder to get through being so far from the rest of your family. I like your vision of the party going on up there.

Barbie - Strange series of events that's for sure - especially in the same family. Hope you can do something uplifting tonight to brighten your day. Take care,

I liked Soos's thoughts on what you needed to do for yourself tonight. Sounded very soothing.

I'm sorry you have so many bad memories in this one week. Take care Barbie, sounds to me
like you are one who should make sure to get that mammo every yr, with it in your family like that.

I hope your kitty will be especially loving tonight and cuddle until you are sleeping. A much better
tomorrow I wish for you, even though the week is still here, a calmer day would be nice it seems.

At least you know that you are not alone, tonight, so many will be thinking of you and hoping you have
a nice evening.

Take care,
CArol

..

Same thoughts and hugs here, Barbie. Do that pampering thing...snuggle up with a cookie, a cat, and a good movie.
(well, in your case, it would be more than A cookie...I should have said "tube" of cookies.)

Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts and words. Memories have been flooding my brain all day long. Kathleen was such a funny lady! She drank and smoked too much, but she was a very hard worker and a wonderful person. Even my dad liked her and he hated everyone in my mom's family. She and her husband owned a cafe, and a resort on a lake up in northern Minnesota in the little town called Deer River (if you blink you'll miss it). They eventually stopped renting out the cabins and just kept them for family and friends coming up to visit or fish. My mom actually lived in one of the cabins for many years until she had a heart attack and moved back to Mpls. Lots of great memories up there! I could kick myself for not getting up there last summer. It has been a long time since I was there and I wanted to go one more time before I moved out here but never got around to it. Without Kathleen being there it just won't be the same. She rarely came down to Mpls until her sister Linda got sick three years ago and then she stayed with her throughout her whole fight with cancer that ended one year ago this week. Kind of an end of an era.

I went shopping last night. :D Bought some things for my day at the beach in San Diego on Saturday with the camping group (beach umbrella and chair, carmel/vanilla marshmallows, graham crackers, etc).

So sorry to hear about your cousin Barbie. Sometimes things seem to run in families like that. You be careful too. The big C seems to run in your family like it does mine. I lost a grandmother to leukemia when I was 5, my aunt (mom's sister) died from a brain tumor, my uncle (the brother) had Non Hodgkins and mom got Ovarian Cancer. It's the biggest worry I have as far as illness is concerned. Even more than having high cholesterol etc.

My sympathies to you and your family.
