OK, this is a dumb question (first in a continuing series, no doubt) -

We are planning on full timing in our fifth wheel possibly as soon as next year. I color my hair at home each month. Are there any hints, tips, etc. that you have about coloring hair in a tiny RV bathroom? Just letting it go natural is not an option - I tried it once and it's snow white and makes me look like I'm 120.

Thanks,
Megan

Or use the kitchen sink instead?

I don't fulltime, but because I'm vane, I have colored my hair on the road and I used the kitchen sink.

Do you have a shower? Maybe you could hang a mirror in there and you can also hose it down and not get color on the stuff by your sink.

I lived in my fifth wheel for 4 years until recently, even when it came to washing my hair, I just used the kitchen sink and
then cleaned up the area real good afterwards. Not a problem to me.

I always wondered if the hefty chemicals associated with hair color will have an adverse effect on the seals in the holding tank...Might want to dump the tank and rinse water through it just after coloring your hair.

I wondered about the chemicals too. I think my lavatory empties into the black tank, not that I would be using it. My lavatory is about the size of a not that big bowl.

Yep, when I color my hair, I use the kitchen sink.... ;) It drains into the gray tank for us, so that gets emptied often....same 5er for 4 years and no problem with the seals... ;)

Another option would be to use the CG bathroom. I have been in a few CG where women were dying their hair and used the CG's bathroom to rinse it out. No one made a fuss. I did hear "I should have done that' a few times. Just something else to consider. I think I would when the time comes to dye mine. Linda

What about using your outside faucet (assuming you have one)?

I always used the RV park's showers, especially those with private family type rooms where you can lock the door and no one knows what you are doing! I also like the outside shower idea, but you'd probably have to rinse into a bucket or something else the color would make a mess.

Funny I was just pondering this a day or two ago. Figured I would use campground facilities.

speaking as a veteran hairdresser,,, I don't think there's anything in the haircolor chemicals that's bad for your sewer in your camper. The only thing that's in haircolor is ammonia and peroxide and those are used in cleaning agents anyway. If your scalp isnt harmed... your holding tank sure won't be harmed,, and besides,,,you dump it at LEAST once a week,,, i'd think. But rest easy on the tank part..

As for rinsing,,, i'd get in the shower,, just like I do @ home, when I do my own hair. I'd be athinkin' the bigger problem would be the application of the color and if you had a big enough mirror to be able to use a hand mirror and see the back of your hair... ??

If you can shampoo your hair while you're on the road,, you can COLOR it too! Same difference,, w/ the rinsing,, I mean... right??? :ugeek:

REPORT on your progress... i'd like to know how you made out.
