Sunny Saturday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunny Saturday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Sat May 21, 2011 6:01 am

Just a quick Good Mornng to everyone, before I head out the door to work. Beautiful morning here at the moment and looks to be a warm day as well. Storms supposed to come through tonight and clear out for tomorrow morning and then another round tomorrow night again. Probably won't get any sleep if that happens, as Tessa will be in anxiety mode.

Were getting quite a few campers in the park by the time I left yeasterday. We opened the south campground and when we do that, they come running. That's the favorite on as a number of sites are lakefront. Going to be a beautiful camping weekend, highs in the 70's and around 80. Lots of vehicle traffic as well with people driving through, looking the park over, launching boats etc., at the acess site. Getting ready for the holiday weekend.

I too am trying to get ready for the holiday weekend. Working on those cupboard doors. Having a few problems getting the latches installed, but will get them in eventually. Will work on them again after supper tonight. The knobs will be the easiest part as I just have to line everything up and drill and screw. Then I can start cleaning in there and reload everything I took out. Hope to get some cooperation from mom nature in that regard. Monday looks like rain and I am hoping to go to CW on Tuesday and just have a day to goof off.

Gas prices are dropping like a rock up here. Down from $4.29 to $3.99. Hope they keep going. Makes life so much easier. Gassed up my truck yesterday and then also gassed up my lawn tractors can. Cost me $20 bucks just to get gas to cut the grass. Sheeesh. And with doing my neighbors yard, I will be back for more in the not to distant future. Fourtunately, she is paying me for doing hers.

Soos, that's wonderful that you will have company on the trip home. And get in some good quality mother/daughter time as well. It is a beautiful time to be heading home too, with spring in the air. Enjoy every minute of it.

Time to get ready to roll around here. Hope you all have a wonderful day, no matter what it brings or what you are doing.

Good morning! Coffee is on…high octane today because I didn’t sleep well last night so it’s none of that half caffeine stuff that I normally drink. I haven’t checked in for awhile.
We had a bit of a catastrophe a couple weeks ago. The neighbor boy wanted their lawn look nice for his graduation party. Nathan is a really good kid and his dad is a trucker and gone a lot, because of this he and Dennis have become pretty good buds. He called Dennis and asked him if he would like him to spray our yard for weeds while he was at it …now tell me how many kids do you know who would do that? Dennis said sure, but not to spray the back part because we don’t keep it mowed to the extent we do the area right around the house and it meets up with a low area that fills with water. So the Monday after Mother’s Day Nathan sprayed the lawn. By Tuesday I was getting a little worried because the grass was looking pretty sickly. Dennis was sure that he had just gotten the spray a little strong and burned it a little bit. By Wednesday there was no doubt that both of our lawns were deader than a door knob….well the grass was dead…the weeds were still looking fairly healthy! Dennis had Nathan show him what he had used and it was a generic equivalent of Round-Up. Yep….our grass is toast. Needless to say the topic of discussion at Nathan’s graduation party (well the whole town for that matter….the traffic down our street has been intense!) was Cihak’s and Bierman’s dead lawns. Poor Nathan, he’ll probably never live this one down. People can’t believe that we’re not irate….but the damage is done, it was and accident and the kid meant well. We have jokingly told him that it would probably be in his best interest not to consider an occupation in lawn maintenance. Wednesday we had a lawn care company come in and thatch and reseed the lawn…haven’t gotten the bill yet but am quite sure it’s going to be over two grand. Ouch.
Other than this…life has been pretty mundane around here…work and home. We had to cancel our camping reservations for Memorial Day weekend because Dennis is behind on field work because up until the last two weeks the weather hadn’t cooperated.

Pat, that sounds like something that could happen at my house. My bunch loves round-up. A few years after my mother-in-law passed away and everyone was tired of mowing the grass there he sprayed round-up on the whole yard. My step daughter was not happy. She was using it as a second home but expected us to keep it up.

My sister is talking about coming for the Memorial Day weekend since she has a long weekend. I don't know where we could go fishing except at our pond. I'm sure the local state park is booked up. If I go to town on Friday I meet many RV's headed South.

The weather has finally gotten sunny. We are here in Moab for a few days, playing tennis, hiking, etc. Lost my post about our jeep ride adventure in Capital Reel, but Bob's blog has it. He made it sound a lot less stressful than it was. Glad I didn't have to spend the night, although the people who we rented the jeep from said that they would have sent a ranger out if we hadn't returned. Not sure if it would have been for us or their jeep. Well, off to explore Arches again. Have a good day, everyone. carold

Carol, how I would have hated to be stuck there. So glad you were able to get out - maybe a tad red muddy, but without anyone having to come find you (well, the jeep). I've just caught up on your blog - loved seeing all the pics as it's been since 2005 that I did those places and fell in love with them.

Meantime, we have seen the sun today! The glorious sun. MIght not see it for several days/a week or maybe more after today, so getting as much of it as I can. Off to sit outside now with a book.

Ouch! At least it shouldn't need mowing for quite a while.

Just a FYI for everyone.
The local "master organic gardener" says that round-up is one of the most dangerous chemicals one can use.
Causes cancer in animals and humans that come in contact...

Might want to try to find a more organic solution to the problem.

Pat looks like desert xeriscape. Will safe a bundle in gas money mowing it for a bit. My idea of a great home lawn. In Tucson my last townhome was rocked in the front and most of the back. I put in a small 8 x 10 grass patch and then dug it up the next year and put in rocks. They don't require much more than a few wisks with a floppy broom to get the lemon, lime and grapefruit leaves moved out the back gate.

Seriously, sorry for you guys and the youngun will forever be that lawn killer kid.
