Carolyn you are in thoughts and prayers. I'm thankful that you and your Dad are safe and had some time to get important things out.

Very good advice to have someone or two or more with you when you first go back to look. It's been since 1953 that my family went to view our beloved summer camp, which had been located on the Farmington River in CT, floated into the woods, full of water, on its side, pieces of it all over, our favorite belongings all over the place, and untouchable due to polluted water everywhere-----and the horror and sorrow of that is still with me today. The memory is often the subject of some very traumatic dreams. Hurricane some-name ruined that for us, and that was only a summer place. Yours is a full-time home. It is even more traumatic than you may know to actually confront the scene, so be prepared.

Then again, who knows-----perhaps your place will have made it through like a miracle! Did you say RABBITS this month??!! (Vickie is right---humor will help you, as it always does!)

Thinking of you today.

This morning Fox News is in Butte LaRose.. how sad for these residents and businesses that they must be sacrificed to save the larger more populated areas. We all love you Carolyn and hope you can gather some strength from this for what lies ahead.

I talked with Carolyn last evening. She was quite upbeat and said that she and her father are doing well. She is driving daily from Lafayette to Baton Rouge and back for work. Says as the water rises it should still remain about 12 inches (1 foot) under the Basin Bridge. Remembering the swamp tour that is a lot of water yet to come down in there. I'll find a pic of the bridge over the swamp and post it here after I take care of some other things.

So we know where we are.

Damage from the flood of 19xx - don't remember, but I think it was the 1927, perhaps Sharon or Diana will remember. But it was the railroad bridge!!!

More looks under the bridge to give you some idea of the proportions.

This is one of my favorites. Looks like a big open stadium hall way.

She said there is a glimmer of hope that Butte LaRose won't be drowned. The release of the water is spreading out and being soaked into the soil more than first anticipated. But only time will tell what the end result will be. She isn't thinking of replacement of things, if any, at this time.

She appreciates all the concerns of the forum Sistahs. She thanks everyone for their prayers and also asks that we continue to keep them all in our prayers.

Thanks for the update, Birdie. Maybe mother nature will use enough of that water as it travels downstream to minimize damage to homes and property. carold

I'm glad to hear there is hope - and, of course, my thoughts and prayers will continue for all in the area. Let's hope those grounds keep absorbing great amounts of the water!

Thanks for the update Birdie. Carolyn and her father are always in my thoughts and I was wondering how it was going down there. Glad she is keeping an optimistic, open mind. Also glad to hear that the ground is absorbing some of the water. Hopefully that will help.

Thanks, Birdie, for this update.

Hopefully mother earth will absorb enough of that water to feed all those trees whose "hungry mouths are pressed against the earth's sweet-flowing breast." (From Joyce Kilmer's poem, TREES.

Hello,
A quick update:
Moved into to sister's boyfriend's home (it is behind her house) and settled in as much as possible. A total of 17 bays of the Morganza Spillway opened as of this morning. Two feet less water predicted for Butte LaRose as previously predicted (better news :-)). The river is predicted to crest in Butte LaRose May 24. The water will stand for several weeks, before starting to drain.
I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. It is very emotionally and physically exhausting. On a good note, I am strong and will overcome all this. :-)
Thanks for your continued concerns and prayers. It is very much appreciated.
