Flooding - Sisters near are you safe?

Postby Birdie » Sat May 07, 2011 8:05 pm

See where there will be more and probably then some more flooding down around the Mississippi. Are you sisters okay around there. I know that it was predicted the southern part of LA would rise significantly but they thought they would be okay.....Just checking to make sure that everyone has an emergency evac plan setup and ready to put into effect in a moments notice!

Read where I-40 was closed for some time today in Arkansas. Would be nice if you folks could get some sent over here. Got 1" cracks in the ground from the dryness.

Please let us know that you are okay if you near around low spots.

Carolyn is in grave danger, especially if the Army Corp of Engineers opens the Morganza spillway. They have requested to do just that, but it has to go thru the MS River commission next. Please keep her in your prayers. It's not lookin good :(

Love ya Carolyn, please stay safe!

Oh, Carolyn, please stay safe. If necessary, get in that rv and head to safe grounds - just like you would for a hurricane. Will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers - and any others in dangers path.

Carolyn is so on my mind too. When our swamp tour guy said water levels would raise 10, maybe 12 feet, no one had any idea that the Morganza Spillway might be opened. This is a whole new and very scary, rapidly developing situation. Google Morganza inundation map for an overview of the area.

Yeah, Carolyn posted that if they open the spillway that Butte La Rose would be completely under water. Isn't that where she lives? She also said they were making plans to move, now whether that's her house or rv, I don't know and she hasn't posted anything about it since. Sorry, that was on Facebook, not here. She asked us to pray for them.

Carolyn posted on FB that she has plans to safely evacuate people and as much stuff as possible. She said she'll live in RV if she loses the house. It all depends on if they open the flood gates. They'll know in advance if that's gonna happen.

This morning I found this article. http://www.dailyworld.com/article/20110 ... nav%7Chead My heart goes out to Carolyn and all the residents of Butte LaRose. Is this going to affect Martha also?

I am so sorry to hear that Carolyn's house might flood. Having gone through that twice in 3 years you can't imagine what a mess it is. I hope she can get her things out or high enough.

They are saying we don't have anything to worry about here but I don't know. We are only about a mile from the Vermilion River and the Intracoastal Canal. Our house is on an 11 foot hill now but we have animals, vehicles and equipment to move every time a hurricane is headed this way. Both of our sons are in the area to help if we need but my DH can only give orders.

Hello,

Thanks for the prayers.

I will start moving stuf at the end of this weekend and should be completed by the weekend. I am still not 100% if I am going to move all my contents are just the stuff that cannot be replaced. If enough people show up to help move the big stuff on Saturday, I will probably move it. I always thought Butte LaRose would flood because of a levee breach. I never thought they would consider opening up the flood gates. We will still get flooding, even if they do not open gates, but would not be as severe if they open the flood gates.

Still haven't heard if they are going to open the Morganza Spillway (they probably will). Hopefully, will here something by Monday or Tuesday. There is a meeting at our local Vol. Fire Station Tuesday everning. I should know more what to expect.

I did find out that when it flooded in 1973, the small area where I live in Butte LaRose did not have water in the homes/camps. I pray this will be the same this time. The lower areas in Butte LaRose had more servere flooding.

Please keep me and the residents of Butte LaRose in your prayers. Thanks.
