Hopefully al quada (I refuse to give capital letters) will not retaliate. I believe we will be shown his dead carcus, but so many arabs look like him, he is extremely common looking and who among us has seen him in the last ten years! Hopefully it's all true; probably is..Man, that is one guy I wouldn't want to be now...burn baby burn

As KD has mentioned, I hope his group doesn't try to retaliate.....actually, I hope they don't have the organizational skills to do anything grand.

I won't be missing that man, that's for sure. I hope it's the end of an era that will live in infamy.

I'm sure there is a line of evil men that are going to flex their muscles to try to take his place. That's what I find scary!

Facebook is all a flutter with the news about bin laden. To tell you all the truth it scares the crap out of me. The cheering, the glee and gloating is in it's way sickening.

This is what I posted on Facebook in response to the above reactions and....

My thoughts on Bin Laden's death is confusing and i'm just wondering? to us he was an evil man. but to his followers he was a great man. while i'm glad at long last that there has been retribution. I morn for those lost on 9-11 and grieve for all the soldiers who have lost their lives. and i pray for all the families. ours here and theirs over there.

But all the smug, gleeful comments and cheering really bothers me. just saw a pic that someone lifted from someone else showing Lady Liberty holding bin ladens severed blood, dripping head aloft in the air. rather crass to my way of thinking. that kind of stuff will surely bring the crazies out in force against us to pay us back again. and so it goes on and on. well i remember the outrage and fury in this country when a video was showing of captured and dead soldiers. of course the pic of Liberty holding bin ladens head isn't real.... but ya have to wonder?? will something like that be like pouring gasoline on a smoldering fire?? you know it will be seen and passed around and around. FB is world wide so sooner or later it will be seen by fanatic vindictive eyes and probably used as a rallying cry.

There will be those who will probably get very upset with reading this. so be it. you can't deny that the possibility for revenge from the taliban and followers will not happen....and i wonder and dread the deaths that will follow.........

Actually, for what it's worth, having lived in the Middle East, there are very few Arab people who are 6'4" tall like bin Laden. He would be easy to spot. But I believe our government who say they tested the DNA and are absolutely sure it was him.

Echo, I do agree--to a point--I sincerely believe today is a day for the world, not just the USA, to celebrate the death of a HORRIBLE form of a human being. I'm proud of our military and intelligence community for their success yesterday. And I'm ok with the cheering and celebrations. However, a severed head combined with the Statue of Liberty...now that's exactly what you called it: CRASS! Tasteless as well. There is no reason to be as ugly as these terrorists.

I am concerned over the possibility of al Qaeda around the world taking revenge, but they don't really need a reason to cause trouble and kill more people. Remember we aren't the only country where al Qaeda has killed citizens. The world should rejoice at the death of this man, and they should continue to search out the #2 and do the same to him along with the American "cleric" who is their #1 recruiter.

Let's celebrate and heap accolades on the Special Forces who got him. Let's celebrate a world a bit more safe than it was the day before yesterday. But let's not turn it into a circus showing the ugly side of America!

That's my two cents....

My son was to be deployed to Afghanistan next month, for a year. They now changed his orders to be, yet again, embedded with the Filipino Marines in Jolo, who are fighting al qaeda cells that are recruiting high school kids and setting up cells on some their islands. I fear that now those cells will multiply or become more radical. A year and a half ago, when he was there, they finally found the missing high school principal. Well, just his head. Laying by the gates to the military compound. Also lost two of our troops to an IED. We never hear about that on our national news.

When you feel bad about people celebrating bin laden's death, remember Hitler, all the destruction he caused...compare that in your mind to bin laden. We cut the head off the snake but there are plenty of people left that want to take his place. bin laden lived each day calculating how to take more lives, anyone's life, it did not matter and smile that sneery smile as he did. For me the air is a bit easier to breath because he is no longer here, now we need to finish the task.
