Bottled Water

I'm so against bottled water - as twice I've had bottled water tested against the tap water where I was at and the tap was better, and also because we can't afford all that plastic. But how does it really stack up? Decide for yourself?

As for me - I put the filter on the water coming in my rv, and I''ll drink to that

I've always drank the water that comes out of the faucet wherever I am, unless I'm told otherwise. It's only happened once'; a note said "don't drink the water unless you boil first" and that was in Newfoundland. Maybe I can blame all my physical ailments on that carold

I refill the bottled water bottle from the tap about 20 times for every bottle I buy. Then I freeze it and drink it as it thaws.

I agree that tap water is most likely safer. We have terrific water here in Michigan from all our wonderful Great Lakes.

While working for Arnold Trans and living in Maine I sure did haul a whole lot of Poland Spring Water!!!!

They use to set pallets of water outside for drivers to take. The shrink wrap would break or rip spilling bottles and popping a few open so they couldn't ship to sell. I use to grab some to keep in the truck. When Kelly and I were living in the truck in the summer of '07' I had to go pick up a load at the plant. We grabbed probably 6 or 8 gallons of water. Might have had them on the truck with us 2 or 3 weeks. Kelly pulled out a gallon from under my bunk to pour into the cooler jug. She came back up to the front and looked at the water in the gallon jug and asked me what was in the water??? Had a whole bunch of floatie things in it. So she checked the the other gallon jugs we had left. They all had little bits of something floating in the water. Kinda reminded me of ? lake water even if it wasn't discolored.

But I'll you!!! Never again did I ever buy Poland Spring Water again!!! LOL

And on another note. We recycle at the park. I am one of the staff who sorts out and bags up the stuff to take to the reccle center (we have seperate bins for the stuff to be put in, but they throw all knds of junk in too) . 99% of what we haul down in the truck is plastic water bottles. Bags and bags of them. And I'm talking full size garbage bags full. It always amazes me how much bottled water is consumed at the campgrounds. Course I have to aadmit that I am guilty as charged too. When I camp, I take bottled water with me, as some campground water supplies are yuck. Even at my park, our water is tested each year and is drinkable with no problem, but cause it's being pumped from wells, it is "fortified with iron" so to speak. So we all bring our own water instead. Sometimes the campers make remarks about funny tasting coffee if they fill their pots at the fountains So many parks have old iron water lines underground from years past and of course the yare coated with iron from the water too, so......

Here in the NW most counties recycle everything! I have 4 containers on garbage pick up day. One for glass, one for cardboard/plastic, regular garbage and one for yard debris.
The campgrounds always seem to have separate containers for recycling.

Now about water: I rarely order water when eating out. Most of it I cannot stand the aftertaste. Most reminds me too much of what my fishtank water smelled like. When camping or on an outing, I use one particular brand bottled water, just because I like the taste. Also drinking unknown water tends to get my belly riled and who needs that when on a trip or camping? JMHO

For the times I need it, I got the Brita filter - it makes my water all taste good - and doesn't hurt the environment so much. And the more I read about the bottled water, the less I want to use it. Of course, at Amazon, they provide bottled water to workers (we can carry those with us) so I do use it then. Have to keep hydrated.

I agree with drinking the bottled water when I am camping. I have had too many stomach upsets from the water, probably the high mineral content. The RV park where I am in Eureka has very "high" mineral content and gives both myself and the dog "intestinal issues", so we both drink the bottled water. I dont buy the individual bottles here I usually just buy the gallon size and that seems to work fine. Just use it for drinking, coffee, and the dog.

While boondocking we would fill empty water bottles gal size at the water places that filtered and removed all the salt ect when we are hooked up to water we use a brita filter
When we travel I usually buy water instead of pop and re recycle the plastic bottles when we can

I haven't drank tap water in years since I got a nasty Intestinal disease that lasted for days with many trips to the rest room.

When at home, we have a well, that is tested every couple of years, and I have a multiple filter system.

When on the road, or staying at RV parks, we only drink bottled spring water, not filtered bottle water, whick costs almost as much. I don't even drink the water from the RV's fresh water tank.

We only use the water to shower with at the campgrounds, and wash dishes.

Of course we all know that water is the primary source by which our bodies replenish minerals, our thirst mechanism is, in large part, triggered by our bodies need for "mineral"replacement. There isn't one single mineral left in bottled water after the excessive "purification process". That is why you don't really get that "AAHHHH" refreshing feeling when you drink bottled water and you likely notice that your thirst ins't quenched; you are forever wanting and needing more water...which is good for business if you're in the bottled water sales business.

Another note on my campaign against bottled water. Reusing the containers is not a good idea. The plastic is very low quality and does deteriorate, ever so minutely, and sluffs carcynogenic particles into the contents. But more importantly their have been cases of ecoli from buildup on the twist-top lids if not washed well (and the inside of the lids is not easy to get clean) in hot water and most people just do a rinse. It's the same situation that happens if you don't use polypropylene containers or "specific drinking water hoses" for drinking water when boondocking bacterias will build up in and on the material.

In the humble opinion (and I always have one) of Dr. Kathy, the best way to go is a Brita Filter.

I agree, Kathy. And for those who blame the water on your intestinal problems - it most likely was something else. Just saying. (And I know you'll argue the point - just as most people get food poisoning often, and blame it on a one or two day flu).

When boondocking, I have had occasions I've had to buy water. I would then buy the cheap gallons of water - or in Mexico the even cheaper water - as it is necessary to buy water there. I got myself a 5 liter (about 2 1/2 gallon) refillable water container when down there and they'd fill it for about $1. But when boondocking in the US, I do use my water tank - and the Brita filter - if at all possible.

And, yes, this is a subject I get on a high horse about.

Yes, I use my RV tank when boondocking, have done that for thirty plus years...these tanks are polypropylene and completely safe, plus an occasional "diluted bleach rinse" of the RV tank is a good practice ...but the Brita filter is always good when filling tanks with water from various sources in your travels. When I am forced to buy water on some boondocking trips I use the "pitcher filter" for drinking.

The bin laden killing is on the news...I am gonna have to see pictures of his carcus in order to believe it...I think we all are.

I too use the water in my RV....and have a gallon back up water container using water from here at home. When I see the tons of plastic bottles of water at the market, I wonder what are people thinking that buy it...Too lazy to use a refillable cup of the water from their house, (try a baby bottle)....too cheap to buy a filter system if they're not happy with their water at home or ???? It astounds me...I think they ought to include on the label of every bottle of water, a picture of the garbage dump of plastic bags & plastic water bottles floating in the ocean which I believe is now somewhere the size of Texas...Or a picture of the sea creatures tangled in the garbage dump...I guess when one doesn't see the repercussions of our plastic useage & disposal...it's easy to ignore.
