I have updates from other friends in and around Huntsville - here's some of what one sent me:
"We are fine, no damage at home. The devastation is unbelievably extensive. I had to drive 50 miles south to get generator fuel this morning & couldn't get over what I was seeing: stripe after stripe of incredible damage, on & on & on. The pictures on the news are just a small portion of what is out there in the rural areas. It is said that we will be without power for 7-10 days at least, as the Brown's Ferry nuclear plant suffered a lot of damage & lost the 2 transmission towers that feed power to half a million people. Pieces of them are in the TN River. Some electric co-ops have been able to get power from other sources to small areas (some on the mountain got some power back this afternoon!), but have 20 gals. of generator fuel just in case.
Hope you are doing well - glad you were not here to experience this in a camper!!!"
Another friend told me she doesn't have land line working, and cell phone only sporadically and no internet. Funny, what does work (same during a hurricane in TX) is the text messaging - and the message above came that way.
